A two hour train journey west out of Sydney and we were in the mountains; the Blue Mountains so called because when you look at them from a distance they have a weird blue tinge to them. As soon as we got off the train you could tell it was noticabley colder. Katoomba its self is a very small place and the only attraction is the walking and other things involving the Blue Mountains. We decided to stay a night at the YHA and go walking in the morning before catching the train back. It was a brilliant hostel, one of the best we've stayed in. I wish we had stayed in YHA's all the way down the coast. Just on sunset we had a quick walk down to a viewing platform that looked over a massive basin full of trees. This is where the Three Sisters are, they are three rocky peaks in a line, they don't really look like sisters but... The kitchen in the hostel was great and clean which is a novelty. I made a massive chilli out of all our left over food so we don't have to bother cooking again until we get to NZ. After a great nights sleep we woke up to ( I never thought i'd say this ) FROST! Reception had shown us a good walk to go on so after some breakfast we hit the trail. We had a good four hour walk through rainforest, roads, cliffs, and loads of stairs! We also took a 270m high cable car with a glass floor across a canyon and the steepest train in the world, which goes surprisingly fast! Some of the views we got were spectacular, you wouldn't think you could get such different landscape only two hours from Sydney. Mel seems to have developed a painful kidney so it was quite difficult for her bless her, she hung in there though and now we're heading back Sydney.
