Right where did I leave it, oh yeh Willsy got pretty sick so we missed going to the mountains. Next disaster! We missed our bloody train. We were going from Xi'an to Nanjing and then onto Shanghai and we stupidly got on the bus on the wrong side of the street and ended up in the middle of nowhere at the bus depot instead of the train station. I was sooo annoyed because I was very ready to leave Xi'an as there's not much there except the Terracotta Army and we ended up staying there a week.
But after a 23 hour train journey (not as bad as it sounds as you get beds), Shanghai is pretty cool. We've been to all the clothes and antique markets which were pretty cool. However, they do go for the hard sell at these things and get really pissed if you ask the price and then don't buy to which we overheard Simon reply "no you don't seem to understand contractual law" to a Chinese person who only knew "you buy" in English. Highlight of the market!.
We also spent a day at the World Expo which was absolutely massive. We spent about 6 hours there and saw less than a quarter. Its basically where every country gets to showcase what makes there country cool. They got to make whatever building design they wanted which looked wicked. The UK was a sort of grey hedgehog cube. Pretty weird compared to all the others. Sorry I haven't put up any pics yet, Chinese computers are superslow so Im probably going to have to wait until Hanoi.
We've spent the last couple of days hanging out and testing the local spirit which is DISGUSTING!! It kind of tastes like berries, anaseed and poo. But it costs 70p for a bottle and is 45%.
Few things I've noticed about Chinese people:
1: They treat any child under the age of 3 like a wild animal, it is fully acceptable for them to s*** ANYWHERE in the street and scream as loud as they want in your ear on trains. All childrens clothes have an open gaping slit in the bum area for such toilet emergencies. They don't really do nappies.
2: Chinese traffic lights are a guildline. Only really applies to big vehicles. Bikes, mopeds and anyone in a rush can drive through a green light and mopeds can drive in any direction or on the pavement.
3: Middle-aged Chinese women are CRAZY, nothing will get in there way if they want something or are going somewhere quickly.
4: Young women all where massive high heels for all occasions including the great wall of China or other such difficult walking tasks.
5: Chinese people don't yawn EVER
6: Probably my favourite revelation - THEY EAT CUSTARD TARTS HERE. For all those who don't know custard tarts are my favourite. They're called Tart-Masters. Amazing.
Thats it for now.. off see some famous acrobats tonight (can't wait) and then on to Hong Kong 2moro night. Hope everyone is well. Can't wait to get on facebook again so I can talk to you all properly. Love to all x
