Hola de Argentinia!!
Blog writing for the last two months = epic fail. Sozza! Most people probably aren´t that bothered, so I´m mainly writing these again for you Alma! and mother of course.
So our Spanish adventure all started on the plane from Auckland. We thought yes its a Spanish speaking country but some people will speak English at least in the hostels.. surely it wont be like China. So... its pretty much like China. Only worse because Chinese people weren´t interested in talking to those strange white people.. here everyone wants to be your friend and talk with you. On the plane within the first ten minutes two Argentinians and one Brazilian had already given us their email address and offered us a place to stay. Ha. The Brazilian gave Sophie and matt a big speech about how you just have to be open and friendly and expect lots of physical contact and closeness and then we´ll have a great time. He obviously hasn´t met many English people. Not really there thing. Stay out of my 1 metre personal space please. Ha. At least we might have learnt a bit of Spanish by the end of the trip because THERE IS NO CHOICE. All good fun. Matthew has perfected quite an Spanish accent. It consists of saying the three words we know really loudly. The plane journey wasn´t too bad, 11 hours with no t.v but we slept a bit and the food wasn´t horrendous so we got through it alright. Very strange having English announced second and air hostesses asking you questions in Spanish.
The first four days we spent in Buenos Aires, which is a lovely city, most of the buildings wouldn´t go amiss in London or Barcelona, very grand European looking. The jet lag was horrendous tho.. we went from 13 hours ahead to 3 hours behind the UK so we were totally confused for days.. we´d lie awake until 5am and then want to sleep all day. Bad times. But we did managed to go on lots of walks around the city and I ate my first Argentinian steak which was awesome. Argentina is supposed to be second in the world for its steaks dontcha know. We got a large glass of red wine, a steak and homemade tiramasu for 5 quid. Its seems like theres a bit of an Italian theme thrown in here .. people say quite a lot of Italian words like Ciao instead of Adios and eat tiramasu. Adds to the effect.
After Buenos Aires we got a bus to Iguaza Falls (only 20 hours) which was pretty epic and as theres nothing else to do there got a bus straight back to Buenos Aires (only another 20 hours). Not too bad except the dinner consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches. I know this doesn´t sound bad but the Spanish people for some reason have an obsession with ham and cheese. When I get home I literally will NEVER eat this combination again. EVER. EAT SOMETHING ELSE FOR GODS SAKE.. That is my only criticism of this country so far. Haha. And that is as far as we´ve got so far.
