19th September
Just driving today on our way to Kununurra. We camped at Timber Creek and few hundred kilometres east of Kununurra.
20th September
We drove in to Keep River National Park and did a lovely walk around some stony outcrops which are very similar to the Bungle Bungles. After our walk we continued on to the Western Australian border where we passed quarantine and headed in to Lake Argyle. We were finally in WA!Mel was quite excited as she has been looking forward to this part of the trip for quite a while. We pulled up at the caravan park at Lake Argyle, set up and had a bit of a look again.Lake Argyle was formed by the damming of the Ord River and supplies the Kununurra area with its irrigation water. It's the biggest manmade lake in Australia.
21st September
Today we took the kayaks out on the lake.We paddled out to a pontoon in the middle of the lake and spent most of the day fishing and swimming. It was beautiful clear water, great for swimming and just a wonderful place to be.Matt caught quite a few cat fish but threw them all back - even the Silver Cobbler which supposedly good eating - but it was still just a cat fish to Matt! After paddling back and heading back to camp we spend some time lazing by the pool at the caravan park.It was a beautiful, infinity-wet edge pool with a magnificent view over the lake - but it was bloody freezing!Still, it was a great place to watch the colours of the cliff face change as the sunset.
22nd September.
We arrived early in Kununurra but were able to get in to a caravan park so we set up early and spent the day hanging around camp. Our camp spot was a lovely spot right on the Ord River.Three steps out of the camper and we were in the river! It was also a lovely shady spot so we were in the shade all day.It was nice to just sit by the river and watch all of the boats and skiers go past.Matt threw his fishing line in and again caught some big cat fish.
23rd September
Pack up time again and a bit of a drive out to Purnululu National Park to see the Bungle Bungles. It was a two hour drive along the bitumen before the turn-off.Then it was 53kms of dirt in to the park.Generally it takes people two hours to travel the dirt but Matt made good time and we made it there in 1 ½ hours! We set up camp and headed out to do the Mini Palms Gorge walk.We had to walk fast as it was getting late.It was really nice walk to a lovely gorge that we had to ourselves!Early dinner and quick shower under the stars before hitting the sack.
24th September.
Up early and on the road by 5am to beat the heat of the day.We drove down to the southern part of the park and had some breakfast before doing the Domes Walk, walking up to a look out and then walking in to Cathedral Gorge (this gorge features in the new Qantas ad). After our walk we went and did a 30 min flight over the Bungle Bungles which was just spectacular! It was a bit scary though as the helicopter didn't have any doors and there wasn't much to hold on to!Still it was an awesome experience and we are very happy that we chose to spend the money to do it.After the flight we drove to the northern part of the park and walked in to Echidna Chasm which is a really deep, narrow gorge that you can walk through. You can reach out and touch both walls in some places. After this walk we headed back to camp to rest during the heat of the day and then drove down to Walanginjdji look out to watch the sunset.
25th September
We were on the road early as we wanted to get back to Kununurra to watch the AFL grand final.WE got back in time and were at the caravan park waiting for a taxi when Matt noticed a guy in a car with a Collingwood shirt on.Matt figured he be good for a lift so we hitched a ride in to town with and his wife.We ended up watching the game with Davy and Jane and went out to the Rodeo with them afterwards. The highlight of therodeo was when a big bull came charging at the fence where we were sitting and Mel fell off her chair trying to get out of the road in case the fence gave way!Matt thought this was hilarious and so did everyone around Mel.
26th September
Matt went out fishing early this morning with Jane and Davy while Mel caught up on some phone calls. When Matt got back we went and jumped in the pool for a few hours - it's bloody hot again! We went to the Kimberley Grand for dinner with Kerry Taylor, a childhood friend of Matt's, and her fiancée' Alex.
27th September
Mel and Jane went out for an early hit of golf while the boys went out fishing in Davys boat.Matt caught himself a nice big black bream that we decided to have for dinner. We spent another few hours in the pool before having dinner with Jane and Davy in their air-conditioned cabin!

Di & Neil We are so jealous! We went to all those places and stayed in that caravan park Did the croc come over for a visit? What about the flying foxes? We flew over the Bungle Bungles in a plane from Kununurra. Spent 3 days in the Bungle Bungles and loved it except for the drive in and out!
