In North Argentina we first visited the town of Salta. Here we learnt a few things;
- Everyone has a mullet, specifically short hair on the top and sides of their heads and then some dirty stupid dreadlocks on the back of their heads.
- Women enjoy wearing very tight tops, however large their stomachs may be
- Everything costs at least 6 times more than the guidebook suggests. Argentina is far far too expensive to be labelled a "budget travel" country.
- A steak sold to you as one persons meal is actually going to weigh at least half a kilogram (seriously) and will result in serious, serious meatsweats.
- Its very pretty, but there isnt actually anything to do.
We werent really prepared to leave what we now think of as typical latin america, but we have. Argentinians apparently wish to be part of Europe, and all of their towns do feel like you are in Europe, just not quite as good. We went to the cinema twice in four days, which i think says everything about the town.
Next up was Mendoza, great first night catching up with friends James & Lyndsey again, then another fantastic steak, but after that again not really all that much to do. We spent one day on the outskirts of Mendoza taking part in Mr. Hugo´s Bike & Wine tour, hiring bikes and cycling between all of the wineries, sampling the produce along the way. This was a lot of fun, especially as we started off on a tandem bike (our first attempt) - these things are a lot harder than they look. After the first wine tasting and a near miss with an oncoming truck we traded the tandem for two regular bikes and spent the day meandering between wineries, an olive oil press and a specialist chocolate factory; yum yum!
