Hello again! Well, after our experience on the Great Barrier Reef, we were taken back to Townsville. We'd stayed there far too long so decided it was time to go. After spending one more night there we set out early the next morning and picked up our drive along the east coast. The day was pretty uneventful really - as usual we drove through some pretty spectacular scenery and most of the roads hug the coastline. We stopped off in a town called "Mackay' that night which was nice and had a really beautiful marina which we have taken some photos of. The computer terminal I'm on now won't let me upload the photos so we'll have to do it the next time we get to an internet cafe.
After Mackay, we continued our drive along the coast and headed towards Rockhampton which is quite a large city. We really didn't like Rockhampton, it's very industrial and not an attractive place at all. It's also the beef capital of Australia so there were loads of references to this in the form of giant cow sculptures everywhere you went - very strange! We did manage to stop off and get a Cold Rock ice cream though - coffee flavour with peanut butter for Matt and cheesecake flavour with caramel fudge for me. We were like naughty kids giggling as we scoffed our ice cream in the back of the campervan. However, this amazing feeling did not last very long and we felt very sick and dizzy after our binge which didn't make travelling in the campervan much fun so we have sworn not to indulge like that again in the near future!
It was pouring with rain in Rockhampton which didn't make things easier, so we decided to head up to Yeppoon which was the nearest coastal town. We are so glad we did - it was gorgeous there. We managed to get some laundry done (yay for Matt who didn't have any clean clothes yet again!) and get in some food for the van. We also hired a DVD (Seven Pounds with Will Smith) which was really good and spent the evening in the van watching that and eating a really nice dinner.
Yeppoon is quite a small town like many of the others we have visited, but it had a really nice feeling about it and all the houses were really nicely kept and the town centre really attractive. The views of the beach were also amazing and the following morning we actually showered on the beach in freezing cold water from the beach showers. Not much fun really, we really are gypsies now! The weather is good, it's just cooling down a lot more here which means that showering outside isn't as fun as it was at the beginning of our trip! We do have a shower in our campervan but the water doesn't last very long and you have to be super fast! We also have photos of our trip to Yeppoon but as mentioned before, I can't upload them on this silly computer so we'll do it another day.
