Hello everyone! We are so sorry it's taken ages to update this blog - we just haven't had much time on the computer recently. We're a bit behind with the blogs but will cast our minds back to last week and try and update you on what we were up to.
I think we finished the last blog in Cairns after we had driven north for a few days. After going back to Cairns overnight we drove back to the little town of 'Moreeba'. This is the town that freaked us out a little bit, when we went there as it was just in the middle of vast countryside and all the people looked a bit weird! But we went back for one thing - Coffee World! Coffee World is the most amazing place, a museum completely dedicated to the history of coffee and coffee making. The guy that started the museum has the largest collection of coffee making devices in the world and they date back to the first every produced machines. He has pieces from all over the world and they are displayed in these really huge cabinets and surrounded with information about the history of coffee and each piece is labelled with a number. You are given these really cool little machines which are activated when you press the number that matches the piece and a pre-recorded sound tells you all about it! There was also little booths with presentations showing and a tea section to look at where he had also collected a pretty impressive amount of tea memrobilia as well. It sounds a bit geeky, we know, but we actually really, really enjoyed it! We spent a few hours wandering around, but the main attraction was the FREE SAMPLING of all the coffee that the shop produces fresh on the premises. They grow loads of their own coffee beans and import some pretty amazing coffee as well and blend it up with other blends so there are all sorts of weird and wonderful combinations. The coffee tasting was unlimited and to make it even better, they had some teas to try too (I was particularly happy about this, as tea is more my forte) AND homemade chocolates which were amazing! We finally came to a decision on which coffee we liked the most and bought some in the giftshop (we were each given a $5 voucher when we bought our ticket so hardly paid anything for it) as well as some dark coffee chocolates which are just so good, we're trying to save them and not eat them all at once! We drove away feeling really happy that we'd come to Moreeba, however weird it seemed!
From Moreeba, we continued to drive through the beautiful northern Australian countryside. The area is actually called the Atherton Tablelands and there were many little towns dotted along the way, all very secluded and spaced out. We are now getting used to this idea, we think it freaked us out a bit before because England of course is not spaced out at all, and neither was Asia (especially China!) so it's just a very, very different experience for us. We drove through mountains and past waterfalls which were really impressive (it was pouring with rain most of the time) and ended up in beautiful Townsville which is where we will continue this blog from...
