So after our adventures in the Town of 1770/Agnes Water, we continued along the coast to Hervey Bay. En route, we stopped at a little town called Bundeburg (yes, it was really called that!) for a coffee and look around. The weather was really nice here and we had the opportunity to buy Matt some pants from a shop there (bet you wanted to hear that didn't you! ha ha!).
After Bundeburg, we headed south to Hervey Bay which we actually really enjoyed. We had heard bad things about it, that it was very touristy and not really worth seeing but I guess that's the good thing about travelling Oz in the winter - there are hardly any other tourists! We went for a nice Chai Latte at a cafe on the beach and watched the world go by for a bit, and then had a nice drive around the town. There's lots of backpackers places there (we don't consider ourselves 'backpackers anymore by the way) so that meant lots of cheap bars and 'traveller types' hanging around them. We are such snobs, haha! We decided to go for a well earned run along the esplanade (path that runs along the coast for those unfamiliar with that word - we weren't). The beach areas are so good here, there's just so much for you to do - a running track, little exercise bars and machines along the way, it's just brilliant. Great that the Ozzies try and encourage their people to go outside and exercise.
We decided to go to a caravan park that evening as we were a bit worried about free camping so went to a really nice park which was very cheap and had an amazing hot shower (we have really learnt to appreciate things like this in life). The following day, we took a nice long healthy walk along the beach (we put some photos of that up on the blog) which stretched along for miles and was just so empty and perfect, it was one of those rare occasions when we had time to really reflect on the beauty of where we were and felt like the only people in the world. Amazing. The tide had really gone out as well so it made for some great photos. We left Hervey Bay around lunchtime headed for our next destination: Rainbow Bay! Will try and write soon and update the blog and so sorry it's so delayed... we are in Canberra right now as I write this which is miles away!!! Lots of love Holly & Matt xxxxxxxxxx
