Hey guys, it's been a few days but we have just been in transit or asleep on the beach!!
Next entry coming your way.
Day 12:
So we arrived in Bangkok after the overnight sleeper train from Chiang Mai & dumped our bags at the travel office & freshened up!
We caught a taxi from there to Kao San Road. Today was all about waiting for the bus transfer so we decided to get some breakfast in BURGER KING then headed to Gulliver's for a few beers after wandering like lost sheep. At lunch time we went to MACDONALDS, yes we are absolute fatties but we have promised to eat thai food from now on It worked out only 2 quid for a supersize double bigmac meal!! Bargain. Then we went & looked round the stalls & carly bought a dress for casual & smart wear. Very purty.
After an uneventful day we caught the overnight VIP bus to Surat Thani to catch the boat to Ko Phangan.
Day 13:
When we arrived at Surat Thani we had a 3 hour wait before finally boarding the boat & settnig sail for the Islands. We were too tired to be excited by this point!
It took under 2 hours & when we arrived we caught a taxi from the pier to Natalia's house in Chaloklum Bay on the North of the Island. It took 20 mins to get from the south to the north just to give you an idea of how small it is!
We had some lunch together by the pool & had a stroll along the beach. It was beautiful, just like a postcard. We trekked to the little fruit market down the road & bought some new & bizzare fruits which turned out to be so tasty. Things like Mangostenes, dragonfruit & rambootans. Spelling is a bit dodgy!
Decided that we would go to Haad Rin in the evening even though we missed the Half Moon Party by one day. It was still a superb night, we saw a fire show on the beach, check the pics, then went to Cobra Bar. Name says it all really, held snakes & scorpions & watched a snake charming show. Was really good fun.
The taxi drive home was better than Oblivion, an open topped pick-up that wouldnt drive under 60 mph! Was nuts, got some funny pics of that.
Day 14:
We woke up early and went for a swim in the pool for a couple of hours before heading back for some lunch which Tals mum had made. It was stunning loads of different Thai stuff which all tasted good! In the afternoon we hired a moped so we could explore the island a bit more. Matt was the driver as i was a bit scared as the roads are crazy most of them are just sand and the hills are huge and the proper roads they do have have giant potholes. Was fun though! Even though you don't have a helmet or insurance (well they say you do) but i doubt it! We drove from the north to the south and had some amazing views from the top of hills.
On the evening we just had a quiet one as matt wanted to get up at 2am to watch Liverpool v Chelsea. So we went to a restauarnt right on the beach and had some lovely Thai food. Between 3 of us we had 8 dishes and 3 drinks and it came to leass than 7 quid! Loving it! The football wasn't worth waking up for afterall.
Day 15:
In the morning we went off to Paradise Waterfall on the moped it was stunning but had some very dodgy hills to get up on the moped. Sorry but we didn't get any pics of it as we switched rooms with Tal so we could watch thye football and we didn't want to wake her up to go get it! When we got back we went out with Tal and her mum to check out some accomodation for the next 2 nights - we have ended up at The Beach Resort on Happy beach. The beach is gorgeous and we literally have a hut right on the beach with a hammock on the balcony only 5 pound a night aswell so can't grumble.
In the afternoon we went to the beach a brought some snorkels - the sea was so shallow though that it was hard to do any snorkelling but we are sure we will get some good use out of them in Ko Tao. This is where we are planning on heading tomorrow - might try and book up to do our PADI course - but got to see how much it will set us back first.
In the evening we went to a lush restaurant - i had the best schnitzel ever with peppercorn sauce (yes i know its not Thai but at least it wasn't english - plus there is only so much rice and noodles you can eat in a week). After this we grabbed a pancake form a street vendor and sat on our balcony watching the sea - such a hard life eh all this travelling!lol only messing it's amazing.
We are slowly starting to turn abit brown but for most of the day it is too hot to sunbathe as it is never under 35 degrees. Matt has the funniest wife beater tan lines - loving it!
We have also realised that the Ko phangan has some crazy bugs - like ones that are massive and just keepy flying into windows and fans. They fall over get back up and do it again - its hilarious. They also have giant killer bees - which are like 5 times the size of normal ones. I also have the biggest bite on my leg from a spider.
That's all for now - not very exciting this entry but we needed to chill for a few days. Hope you are all ok and missing us alot!
Check out the videos of the fire show from the beach and one of our crazy tuk tuk rides!
Love Matt and Carly x x x
