Hey everyone, Carly is going to be writing the blog today so ignore any bad grammar - matt shouts at me enough for it!lol
So here goes....
Day 9:
So on Friday we mainly spent the day relaxing and trying to recover from the Trek because as you can imagine we were pretty tired. So we got up fairly late and headed off to find somewhere for Breakfast. We found an irish bar and Matt had the biggest breakfast ever - looked really nice. I wasn't feeling to good so just had some fruit - was yummy. After that we spent a good 2 hours updating the blog and trying to upload all of our photos - there were alot as you can see!Only cost us a quid though so pretty darn cheap!
We then headed back to the guesthouse and just spent the whole day chatting to other travellers and some of the locals - was fun hearing where everyone had been and what they were planning next.
In the evening we had a few drinks with Jarryd and a kiwi couple Philip and Maria. We all went to the Night Bazaar which is massive and happens everynight. It is about 5 times the size of the fruit market back home. We didn't buy anything but we had some tea from the food court - Matt had a green Thai curry and i had calamari which was like a whole squid in batter. We then headed back for an early night as we were getting picked up at 7am to head off to the Golden Triangle.
Day 10:
So we got picked up at 7 by our tour guide May - she was awesome spoke really good english and told us the history of everything.
First stop was a natural hot spring where we had a coffee. Got back on the bus and went to Chaeng Saen which was the biggest pagoda in Thailand and it was about 800 years old. May told us all of th history behind it but we won't bore you with that now.
After this we drove through Chiang Rai to the golden triangle and caught a speed boat up the river Mekong to Laos. One more country under our belts - not bad eh! We had a quick look round a market and brought some little flag badges which we are going to sew on our bags - the plan is to try and get one for every country we visit. Crossed back over the river after some great views of Thailand, Burma and Laos and the first building in Burma which is a giant Casino. Good times!!
After Lunch we jumped on the bus to the most northernly point of Thailand where you can cross over to Myanmar formerly known as Burma. Had a look round the street market and got harrassed by all the children that were begging.
Next Stop was the Long Neck Hill tribe (the ones with all the rings around their necks) This was a bit strange as it felt really wrong being there and really intrusive. Was interesting none the less. They stat putting rings on their necks from the age of 5 and can have up to 25 - it pushes their shoulders down gradually hence why their necks are so long. The only times they are allowed to take them off is for pregnancy or they get them taken away from them if they have sex before marriage.
We then got back on the bus and headed home - which took about 4 and a half hours - didn't get back til 9pm was a very long day but well worth it.
When we got back we went out for a spot of food and Matt watched his first football game in over 2 weeks - Liverpool v Birmingham! He was happy until they were 2-0 down!lol
Day 11:
So today we have our train at 6 to head back to Bangkok - another overnighter! From Bangkok we are getting a bus to Surat Thani then a boat over to Ko Phangan where we are going to stay with Matt's friend Natalia for 2nights and hit the Half moon party as we won't be here for the full moon one. So over the next 2 days we will be travelling for 26 hours - hardcore! Not looking forward to it but when we get to the islands i'm sure it will be worth it. Might actually start getting a tan then....hopefully!
Hope you are all well - keep leaving us messages as we love hearing from you all. Hope you like the picture aswell!
Lots of Love Carly and Matt x x x x
