Nick W expressed a wish to have a chill out day at an aire he found which is right beside the Rotterdam shipping channel so we check out of the campsite, join the busy motorway system for a few miles before arriving at Maasluis. There are only three camper places and all are occupied, but a hippy-like French couple in an ancient ‘been-everywhere’ truck tell us they are preparing to leave. A few minutes later we have fitted both vans in, ours in the camper place and theirs next to it. Despite the French couple saying there were 5 vans last night, the Dutchman next to us starts kicking up a fuss saying the Police will come and so on. Normally we’d ignore it but he looks like a determined know-all and it’s not worth the bother. Nick W already has the motorbike off ready to go shopping and we were prepared for there not being two out of three spaces free so we elect to move on and leave NW to enjoy his day at the riverside.
Our first option was only 9 miles away but when we arrive it isn’t like the picture; a couple of containers and old trucks plus a temporary roadworks barrier further along.
We move to a nearby car park, have a sandwich and find there is not much suitable until a flower farm 25 miles away which sounds fine. Except the route cuts right through Den Haag which seems to have two sets of traffic lights for every tulip in Amsterdam. After an hour of stop-start left-lane-right-lane intersections we pick up speed onto the A44
On the way we see our first big expanses of flowers; thick rows of bright yellow daffodils.
A mile after leaving on Junction 1 we are trundling along a quiet polder road to the farm.
No-one is around so we park up and after Ali makes a couple of walks back to the office we are checked in, although we have to move to a different pitch.
The reception loans information packs of things to see and do.
We have a lazy afternoon, Ali catching up with her diaries and Nick reading.
Ali rings Grete to make arrangements for tomorrow and check if Grete collected Al’s ACSI Card when she paid and checked us all out of the campsite. Answer; No but the can collect it tomorrow morning without much deviation.
In the evening a travelling veg shop calls.
