After a really good night's sleep we are packed and ready to leave at 10:05. This morning is a cool 14C but it is sunny as we head towards Le Mans and its Musee des 24 Heures - Circuit de La Sarthe.
The museum is very well laid out in 6 sections. Starting wih 'The Heros' we pass each of the life sized photos of legendary people connected to Le Mans, some of which are accompanied by an artefact such as Tazio Nuvolari's leather helmet and goggles, Etorie Bugatti's bowler hat and scarf and racing overalls of famous drivers; Pescarolo, Ickx, Bell and Kristensen. Another section is devoted to very early cars from 1890s to 1910s, some of them like miniature horse carriages with an engine, others are enormous open leviathans with huge radiators and lamps. There are some unfamiliar names such as Amedee Bollee, Krieger electrique and Lorraine Dietrich. The elegance of the late 1920s is on display; Hispano Suiza, Packhard, Bugatti and Delahaye among them.
Moving into the racing section we are spoiled for choice with a range of cars that have competed, from the original winner, a Chenard et Walcker through to the 2013 Audi Hybrid. In between are Porsches, Ferarris, Jaguars [including an Ecurie Ecosse D-Type], Bentley 3 litre and many others. Britain is well represented with drivers' names on the cars; Bell, Brundle Herbert and McNish all winners here.
We leave the museum awash with motoring history and have a pleasant 90 minute drive on arrow straight roads through vast acreages of maize and sunflowers, which have sadly gone over a bit but large areas of yellow remain.
After a stop in Moree for bread we travel the last 5 or 6 miles to tonight's stop, Domaine de Marsoif.
We settle in and are invited to degustation. First Madame shows Ali the Cave, a cellar down a steep, narrow flight of steps and through an arched stone tunnel. Then we have a few glasses to taste before selecting a few bottles to take away.
Back in the van it's spagbol and garlic bread for dinner with a couple more glasses of wine.
