So far........
I enjoy shopping here-it's cheap!! It's totally like Juarez, Mexico. They hound you and they love to bargain! And I don't know how to say "No" so yeah...you can guess how my experience went. haha Arlene now I know what you mean when you say Costa Rica is expensive compared to other places. I cannot believe how cheap it is here! Food is cheap here too..I got a dinner + soup +soda for $7...in America it would have been at least $18 to 20 probably more! As for their pisco sour-it's the traditional cocktail in Peru-I cannot say I am a fan, but I had one for ya, Karla! The food is yummy!! And ya know me and food!:)
People are so nice here! Their hospitality isn't as good as CR, but I don't know that anywhere is. They are hospitable here, though.
Funny story about my Spanish...I totally pulled an "Arlene". Sooo I went shopping and I explained to the woman that the item I was buying was not for me-I was purchasing it for my 'nephew'. At least that is what I thought I said. Her mouth dropped & she exclaimed what I thought was, "No!!! You have a nephew????!!!!" as she grabbed her chest ready to pass out! haha I just looked at her with a confused look (I know Bothell people.."What else is new") & thought, 'what is she on?' Then it clicked..."Nieto" means "grandson" not "nephew". (Stop laughing at me, Bernie lol) AHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHA The lady seriously almost had a heartattack...I couldn't stop laughing...then she started cracking up...boy Arlene and I really are sisters! lol!
I did a city tour. That was very interesting...got to see the Cathedral, changing of the guards, San Francisco Church & some other fun stuff. Then later I got in an argument with a Security Guard. He was so rude & got me all worked up...I wanted to say something to him, but the only Spanish word that came to mind was "ugly"...so I told him he was ugly & it actually shut him up. HAHA I felt bad...but I won't lie it was kind of funny.
As for my volunteer work....it looks like I head out tomorrow! I am excited! Except that I have to travel 21 hours by bus, but hey that beats paying $400 for a one hour flight & I get to see the country! Cross your fingers that they open Machu Picchu...I will be sad if not:(. And say your prayers that there is no more flooding!
On a side note...totally random...but for any of you suffering from heartburn...try Prevacid...now you can get it over the counter at Walgreens! It supposedly takes 4 days to kick in, but I haven't had anything since the first day! It's a miracle drug I tell ya...just thought I would share that with the poor victims of heartburn...Nichole!:)
Pictures to come later....too lazy and off to see Kennedy Park aka "Lovers Park" (or something like that)...yep trying to find my husband.;)
CIAO!
