Short entry to let you know about our last few days on our own. We went from Hazyview early in the morning for our last 'privatae' game drive to Kruger Park. By the end of the day we had seen the big five again... without any help. It was a hot day with, fortunately, a few fluffy clouds in the sky to keep our little rental car from getting too overheated.
That night was spent at a B&B near the Crocodile Gate. There was a sort of family reunion going on and we were asked to join in a braai (barbecue) dinner. Again we had lots of meat, some of it the game we so fondly viewed during the day, and a pretty good portion of vegetables as well. This was not served until after the end of the local rugby game.
Good fun to be part of the family for the night. We again learned a lot about the views of the Africaaner people as to the state of their country. Political problems are huge right now, illegal immigration (read: cheap labor) and of course aids is a major concern. It was an evening of laughter and insite!
Next day we left bright and early for our last drive to Johannesburg on our own. An uneventful day thank heaven. No hijacking, no blown tires or driver exhaustion. All in all it was a good day. We arrived at the airport just an hour before Dave and Lynn's plane arrived.... so we greeted them upon arrival and hoped in their transport to the hotel. Now the next journey begins. A two week bus tour of South Africa. What will it be like?
