While im eating breakfast and packing up camp an old fella on an ATV rides by and stops for a chat. Charley White has been out fly fishing and has lived in the local community for the last 72 years. Charley's thick Newfie accent is a laugh and we spend a while chatting. Charley invites me to meet his wife, take breakfast and have a shower at his house in village over the river.
Saying goodbye to Charley i make my way north to Salmonier nature park. The impressive wildlife rehabilitation center provides a chance to get close to some of Newfoundlands fauna including owls, caribou, moose, otters, eagles and foxes.
After a few hours at the park i set my GPS for Gander and hit the road. I make it 100km or so before im passing close to the town of Dildo and feeling hungry i stop in for some lunch.
After a spot of lunch im making my way back to the highway when i stop to fill up with gas and meet a couple riding
motorcycles. They invite me out cod fishing that evening and for a coffee in the meantime. Jason and Heidi are both from communities around Blaketown and Jason runs a number of companies involved with construction. We dont make it out fishing that evening and instead Jason cooks up an amazing seafood dinner. Some of their friends come over and we drink around a bonfire.
