We left Rainbow Beach in 4 x 4 with Martin as our first driver bombing it down to a ferry to take us to our new home Fraser Island! Lake McKenzie was our first destination after some crazy sand tracks. Martin was first in the water splashing round getting everybody all wet! He attempted a hand stand in the deep water which didn't quite work and capturing the best photo of the holiday, a foot sticking out the water! I didn't swim but Martin gave me a lift on his shoulders - the water was freezing! Our campsite was an old aboriginal ground with a welcoming sign at the gate "An Agressive Dingo Frequents these Grounds"! Fantastic news! With our new family (Timon, Beth, Danielle, Win, Judith & Anne) we made steak, potatoes and salad for tea followed by us teaching them all s***head!
Day 2 we headed out to Eli Creek to chill out followed by a look at the Maheno shipwreck a Scottish boat that the japanese brought and lost when the rope broke when towing it to its new home in the 1930s since then it's been used as a target for bombing (though they can't be good at aiming)! In the afternoon I drove us out to Indian Head thus called as it apparently looks like one. From the top we saw in the space of two minutes sharks, a seal (the sharks were stalking!), a mantaray and then a turtle!! Which was amazing! First it appeared the seal was injured but then he leapt up and swam off - he was only teasing the sharks! Finally we went to the champagne pools - rock pools by the sea! We were arguing whether they would be yellow or bubble but it was just normal sea water! Tonight stir fry was on the menu followed by more s***head, drinks and kings (american style!). The loser became the slave of the group which was fun until you lost!
On day 3 we left camp and spent the morning on the sand dunes by lake wabby under constant attack by flies so Martin left me and charged into the lake to escape them! After lunch a drive down the 75 mile beach and a ferry back to rainbow! We then said goodbye to dinkie (our 4 x 4) and met everyone for a final drink and watched our guide joel sing / play guitar! We also snuck in a cheeky game of pool which Martin won just! Time for bed after a busy few days!!!
