Off to Bury St Edmonds today.
I needed to get a sim card for the iPad and see an Optometrist to get ingrowing eyelashes removed. They pop up every so often and really cause great discomfort. Got that sorted and also the sim card. On the way there we stopped at Wixoe, Baythorne End,
Glemsford. These were places Dad wanted to see as remembered from his childhood.
As anticipated there were changes, some being unrecognizable to him now.
However he was happy to go there and we took some photos of the places anyway.
Had a look around Bury, and just had to have Fish and chips for lunch!!
The streets are narrow but hanging baskets of flowers are everywhere. We also had a walk in the Abby garden at the end of the high street, very pretty and of course I took photos. The camera is going very well and you will be pleased to know I have not had to change the battery yet Natalie!!!
I think I am getting a crick in my neck because I am so busy looking at everything and there is so much to see, especially going through the villages. The houses are fascinating. The roads are hair raising as they are so narrow and then everyone parks their car in the road as well and you weave your way past them hoping to not meet someone coming the other way. If you do you come to some agreement as to who goes first and wave to the other car as you pass.
Sitting here in Audrey's lounge I am watching the Bumble bees on the Lavender outside; they are huge. She has a bird feeder on the lawn as well and yesterday we saw a couple of Robin redbreast's.
Bill has a lovely veggie garden and we have been having fresh jacket potatoes, broad beans, carrots and lettuce in our meals.
Dad preached both services in Debden Pentecostal church on Sunday. He did very well and everyone really enjoyed it they said. In fact they said if he is here for another weekend could he preach again! I think we will be either in London or Cornwall for the next 2 weekends and we leave on the 30th anyway.
Dad went for a walk around the fields here this morning. He woke up at 4.45am as the sun gets up then! and decided it looked lovely out there and so got dressed and off he went.
Said it was crisp and fresh and he really enjoyed walking through the woods and fields.
We may head off to Colchester tomorrow. There is a Castle there and as it was a Roman town I believe there is some of the Roman wall there still.
