Hello,
Just arrived back from my 3 day sailing trip around the Whitsunday islands. It was very enjoyable and my favorite place in Australia, it seems that I've saved the best trip to last. I went out on the Eureka II from Airlie beach on Wednesday morning. It was a perfect sunny day with just a light breeze. I met up with the other 13 other people who were all very nice and got onboard the yacht and we set sail.
We stopped along the way to go snorkeling and saw lots of colorful fish and a turtle. We continued sailing around the different islands, before anchoring the yacht for the night, and relaxing with a few beers. At night I slept on a very small bed (more like a shelf) were I found it hard to sleep as I didn't want to role of the bed, but was still able to get enough sleep.
The next morning we set sail again to Tongue Bay on the Whitsunday Island. It was amazing, with fine white sand as far as the eye could see. We walked up a path to the lookout and looked over one of the most beautiful places on earth. We stayed there for a few hours to take in the sites and swim in the crystal clear waters which were weaving their way through the powder like sand.
We set sail again towards Mackerel Bay. On route we met up with the dive speed boat, which me and one other had to join, so we jumped over to the other boat as we were sailing along. We were then kitted up with our diving gear, and then taken to the dive site. We learnt some of the underwater dive commands, before diving about 20m below the ocean level. While we were down there we saw a string-ray and got within 2m of a shark about 1.5m in size. It was an incredible feeling. After half an hour we came back up to the surface and were taken back to the sail boat. We then sailed on to stone haven and anchored the yacht for the night.
The next morning we sailed out to Blue Pearl Bay where we got to see 4 or 5 whales jumping around in the water. I was so happy as I hadn't seen any whales yet and this was going to be my last chance to see one off Australia. We sailed back towards Caves Cove and did some more snorkeling and jumping off the boat. We got to see a turtle here and some of the more colorful corrals. It was then time to return back to the docks at Airlie beach, so we sailed back to Airlie and docked the boat to end a perfect 3 day sailing adventure.
