This is the last post from Bangkok for now.
I was actually really poorly yesterday with a streaming nose, a bad cough and a bit of a fever. I was still determined to carry on with my adventure although Harnaik told me to stay in bed (as a medical student he should know).
We went to Sukhumvit road with many markets and shopping centres. We also went to a restaurant called Cabbages and Condoms which is run by an NGO and promotes family planning and safe sex. You just can't miss the message. There's statues all around clothed in clothes made from condoms and packets of contraceptive pills. All proceeds go to sex education and AIDS prevention programmes in Thailand. The meal was gorgeous, the surroundings very nice and relaxed. A reminder of it's purpose comes with the bill - instead of after dinner mints, you get 2 condoms instead. I bought some merchandise from their shop, including key rings, t-shirt and a mug and gave a large tip - it's a worthy cause and worth visiting.
I was still feeling a bit groggy. Next door to cabages and condoms was a high class Spa (www.lavanabangkok.com) so we decided to go in for some pampering. Harnaik chose the 90 min Thai massage with Herb ball and I chose the 90 minute foot massage with Thai ball. It was amazing and I felt like I was having an out of body experience. 90 mins of bliss, and it made me feel a bit better too. Harnaik said he had never experienced anything like it. I will definitely go back before I head for China.
We then went back to Shanti and spent the evening relaxing and packing.
It's now Saturday and I'm sitting in the MBC shopping Mall in Siam. I just had a Thai hair cut and am waiting for Harnaik to finish his shopping. We're heading back soon as we need to pick up our stuff and get the night train to Chang Mai. We will be boarding about 5.30pm and will be arriving about 7am in the morning. I chose a first class cabin as there are only 2 beds and it will be more comfortable. Second class involves sharing with 40 other people!
We've also finally agreed the plan for the rest of our stay. From Chang Mai we will be flying to Phucket Island. We will then head for Ko Phi Phi for a couple of days (where the beach was filmed) and then from there to Ko Samui by bus and boat. We will then plan to head to Ko Pha-Nhan (including the full moon beach party on the 26th with 20,000 other people) and then to see Ko Tao. We'll then head back to Bangkok for a night. Harnaik will fly home the next day and I will head to China.
