Day 32. Santa Fe, New Mexico.Longest distance so far today, at 290 miles, bringing us to more than 3900 miles in total. Day 31. Amarillo, Texas.We packed up the bikes and switched on the sat-nav. 'Show me the way to Amarillo'. Just 160 miles west, via Route 152 and 60, and a bit of the historic Route 66. Day 30. Canute (Clinton), Oklahoma.The roads and countryside through Oklahoma weren't looking particularly inspiring - lots of flat straight roads. So, we decided to save some time today and go on the I40 interstate. On the plus side this meant that we completed our 200 miles relatively quickly. Day 29. Checotah, Oklahoma.Another day and another state! We are now in Oklahoma! We started the day looking around the town of Hot Springs. We saw one of the restored bathhouses and some of the odd things that they thought improved your health. I remain skeptical about the plugged in bath emitting electric shocks into the water, although apparently no one actually died as a result of using it. Day 28. Hot Springs, Arkansas.Today has been characterised by very straight and very flat roads - for 230 miles through Arkansas! We started the day with a quick walk around Memphis, firstly to try (and fail again) to cash our travellers cheques; and secondly, to have a look at the American Queen, a luxury paddle steamer which had docked in Memphis for the day.
