Ambrym has been lacking in creature comforts but we have become attached to the people. Liz has become very attached to the girl in the picture (the owners daughter). She is a bit scared of me so I have to grin inanly when I am near her.
Today is goat day, basically a land dispute meeting between the neighbouring village. For a change lots of serious looking villagers sat in the road at the end of the garden hammering it out.
Tomorrow (touch wood) we fly to Port Villa. We were warned that the plane can go early by as much as three hours.
We felt well enough to go down to the sea to see the "large boat" that we could hear. The large boat was a rusty 40ft cargo boat but was enough exitement for a large number of kids and adults that gathered on the beach.
Johns goat day went well, he can now build his business. He was in such a good mood he bought himself four cigarettes and wanted to take me out for some Karva.
The Karva place had moved, it was at the edge of the village in the forest. Despite Karva costing 30 pence for a measure called a shell John hadn't drunk for months as he couldn't afford it. He wanted to buy me some but only had the large money denominations that I had given him for the stay.
I took the opportunity to buy 2 shells each. After this all the villagers started to buy me drinks (despite telling them not to) - they are so generous.
