The last couple of days I have woken up dreaming about home. They weren't pleasant dreams they were more related to the hassles that we are going to face and adjusting back into life in the UK. The one thing that put me off going on this world trip was the coming back - we have been here before it is hard.
We are now on the bus heading south to Punta Arenas for the last time before flying out.
Punta Arenas the worlds most Southernly city has a funny feel to it. There is not a lot to do here apart from strutting around feeling very south, there are the usual museums but we are not really interested in those. Apart from figuring out at which point We were furthest south (Unimarc supermarket) there was one thing that did interest me. The cemetery believe it or not is one of the biggest tourist attractions here, other than seeing the penguins but that doesn't count as it is not in the city.
The cemetery doesn't have any famous people but it does have very large mausoleums and nicely trimed yew trees. Each grave has a little homage to the person including pictures, any trophies and in the case of children their favourite toys.
When there is nothing to do in a place we get the jobs that we have been putting off over with. It took us hours to try and make sure that LAN had us down for vegy meals - they eventually said that we were but we will believe it when we see it. We also booked the train tickets to get us home, this makes it almost certain that we are coming home on the 10th Feb. When I say almost certain, we always expect something to happen, one scare was BA going on strike but they have to give a weeks notice and it hasn't been called.
We cooked (more reheated) our last meal on the camping equipment that we bought in Australia, we kept the stove and left everything else behind. We don't have many things so leaving things that have been with us through all the adventures is hard. They helped to make things more comfortable, such as heating water for a coffee first thing in the mourning in the chilly Yosemite. It is one other sign that things are coming to an end.
We tried to get to bed for the earliest start of the entire trip.
