We discovered that if you just turn up you can get massive discounts at the chain inns. They are all exactly the same apart from the taps which are sometimes surprisingly tricky to figure out.
It is Sunday and dead as a doddo. However San Fransisco is one of the prettier US cities with lots of Victorian clap board houses and grand civic buildings. It also has one of the most rampant gay communities, but a walk up there confirmed that they were not up to anything (well in public anyway).
