As we don't fly out till 9pm tonight it gives us the whole day to spend in San Fran, it was much cooler today when we got up, quite windy and very foggy. After our American breakfasts we headed over to union square to catch the hop on/off bus, and had a tour of the city, so much to see, great commentary from the guide. We did a complete loop saw all the sights, golden gate park, the painted ladies, fisherman's wharf, pier 29, lots of memorials, couldn't see the bridge today for all the fog, then hoped off back at union square and went for a wander around the big Macy's department store it has about 8 floors of stuff for you to throw your money at! Went to the top and had a late lunch at the burger bar, where you 'build your own burger', you pick what you want, bun, pattie and all the extras (including condiments) and construct it yourself, sure beats McD's (which I can gladly say in the whole 10weeks we only went to McD's once in Rome). After our burger feast we got back on the bus as we wanted to go back to the science museum before our transfer to the airport. The museum was amazing it had a rainforest with a spiral staircase to the top with lots of colourful big butterflies fluttering around amonst other things like frogs and lizards very cool, once at the top you got into a lift down to the aquarium not quite Kelly Tarltons but pretty close, you could easily spend an entire day there. Then back on the bus with plenty of time to go to the cheesecake factory in Macy's ha ha we should have just shared a piece I don't know what we were thinking, neither of us could eat more than a third of the cheesecake, but it was delicious. Then back to hotel to pick up bags and off to the airport, plenty of time to check in. Back on the familiar air new zealand we were in premieum economy upstairs in the bubble of the boeing jets, very cool. While on the runway for an hour waiting for our turn to take off, we were served juice, champagne, beer etc! I recommend upgrading if you can afford it, the seats were bigger and had a leg support, you could lie back a little more than in cattle class. Mark was asleep before we had even taken off, I off course waited for the meal but couldn't eat it all due to having eaten so much throughout the day. Watched a movie and then we both managed to have about 4-5hrs sleep, at one point I woke up and looked at Mark who was asleep kneeling on the ground with his head in his seat!! What a funny sight, thought he must have been praying! Not! We both woke early and watched movies in the dark while most others slept, nice breakfast. Arrived in Auckland at 5.50am only 5mins late good effort considering we left an hour late, It is now 1st of October we lost a whole day with travelling. So good to be back on familar ground.
