3rd Dec Trichy short for Tiruchirappalli just a 3hr bus ride from Pondicherry in land so will hopefully get closer to the indian experience!!
well the bus journey was the start of the experience. Just like Myanmar their is bodies everywhere twice as many people standing as sitting. The stereo is blasting out some sort of music so loud Nobody can talk above it. The bus conductor shouts orders at everyone, and everyone apart from us seem to understand him and dutifully pay their dues. It cost us rs76 each for the whole journey which is about 1pound. As we leave the coast and start to travel in land the bus begins to empty and we can relax a little. Enjoyed our first real Indian meal here a Dosia Presented on a leaf we have bread stuffed with veg masala and loads of different sauces dolloped onto the leaf. We watch the locals for some ettiquite ideas quickly learn right hand only and never touch the cup to your lips when drinking. By far the best meal so far!!
Trichy is busy but seems a nicer place we first visit Rockfort temple which is perched 83mtrs high on the rock face The rocky outcrop has 437 steps to climb in bear feet of course unfortunately we are not allowed into any Hindu temple unless invited we werent so we just gazed through the doorway at the gods. Great views of the city though so worth the climb.
2nd temple Sri Ranganathaswamy temple (no I couldnt pronounce it either)Started a visit at the roof top where we could see and take photo's of the centre dome painted in gold leaf donated by worshipers. This temple dates back to the 12th century. Another hall we were not allowed in was the room of a 1,000 pillars looked fasinating through the doorway. Really enjoyed our stay here next stop Madurai
