We were up bright and early and ready to leave by 9am! We had one last mooch at the beach before setting off. Unfortunately we made a sad discovery this am, there was a squashed frog on the way to the showers.. :(
We went down to Mackay harbour and port and they had long stretch of road which went out on the sea so you could see all the boats. It was quite long and we got some good views of the nice boats and the port. We've noticed the lack of stinger nets here and believe that the risk of stingers south of Mackay is much lower! Yipee!!
We then set out in the direction of Rockhampton which was ambitious for the day, but considering we were leaving early, it was achievable! We didn't make any stops on the way, only for lunch at a stop, revive, survive stop! We made it in to Rockhampton mid afternoon and found a campsite on the edge of the river in the centre of town. Unfortunately for us, the unpowered sites are literally on the river bank and there are signs advising of crocs living in the water and on the bank! GREAT!! We managed to find a spot quite high up and away from the waters edge.
We then went and explored in the town. We walked along the river and saw some important looking buildings and borrowed the internet in the library to check the necessities and just generally had a look around! Tis your average sort of town here, but made more appealing with the river.
Then it was time to head back for the usual, dinner, make the bed and showers! We finally got the internet for a bit at the camp site, but only enough to upload one album!
