We had a bit of a lazy morning and didn’t get up until quite late! Oops! The breakfast was rubbish in the hostel so we headed straight out instead. We’re just off Hollywood Blvd, so headed in that direction thinking it would be a good place to start, not realizing that it is the main section of Hollywood!! We’re so close to the main attractions!
We noticed the stars on the ground as soon as we reached Hollywood but it took a while to click what they actually were..the walk of fame!! We stopped to photograph all the ones we knew..including Mickey mouse, Dr Seuss ,Kermit the Frog and all the famous ones!
We signed up with a tour company who take you to see all the famous sights and many celebrity homes! We had a bit of time to kill before we went on the tour so we went and found some breakfast and continued to walk up the walk of fame! It was about now when we realized just how close our hostel was to everything as we saw the Kodak theatre where the Oscars are held, El Capitan theatre where they only show Disney films, the Chinese theatre where there are handprints of celebrities outside and the start of the walk of fame..the start of 2864 stars! Madame Tussauds recently opened here so there was lots going on around it. Many people come dressed up as characters and famous people and will pose for pictures for a tip! They don’t get paid, they just take the tips! Elmo took a liking to us and couldn’t understand why we weren’t engaged or married! He even sang to us!!
We headed back to the tour guide and set off on our 2hour tour. First stop was just outside Madonna’s home, to see the Hollywood sign reasonably close up. Apparently the sign exists because the houses that were first built here were called Hollywood but when they went to take the sign down the residents complained so they just took down the ‘ ‘ part and it the Hollywood part has been there ever since! He then took us around the main sights on Hollywood Blvd and explained their relevance and importance. We saw Leonardo DiCapro’s restaurant, as well as many others owned by stars, and his house. We then proceeded to see many houses where celebrities live including Drew Barrymore, Elton John, Ben Affleck, Ozzy Osbournes old house..the one from the tv show, but Christina Aguilera now owns it. We also saw Pete Sampras, Harrison Ford, Will Smith which was impressive, Tom cruise x2, including the one where the baby was born, Simon Cowells which was different from the others as it wasn’t very secluded! We saw where Elvis lived, and the best one; where Michael Jackson lived and where he died. We then carried on seeing many famous sights and streets. I will tag the pictures as it is easier than explaining them all!
From the tour we popped back to the hostel to charge camera batteries and plan the rest of the day! From there we continued to walk some more of the walk of fame and mooched along sunset blvd! We went out to Universal city where the studios are. We got the subway there and a free shuttle bus. Was an amazing place, just like Disneyland! The studio tour bit was shut when we got there, good job really as it cost $69!! There were many cool shops and attractions such as skydiving, sugar shops (see pics) and a flip flop shop! Mark was happy as there was a huge screen showing Oasis in concert at Wembley!
We headed back into Hollywood and mooched about as it was dark and it was much different to the day..more going on! We sat for ages watching a water fountain which was like a firework show! It changed colour and motion, and we both just managed to get in the middle of it without getting too wet!! On our way back to the hostel we saw heroes being filmed just a couple of streets away! I knew the celebrities would be out!
The weather has been a little disappointing, very cloudy and dull, but at least it’s not cold!
