Struggled to get out of bed this morning as it was so comfy and quite fancied enquiring about how much it would be to buy the bed and have it shipped home..pillows included but Mark wasn’t as keen on the idea!!
We eyed up a café yesterday where we could get breakfast this am but when we got there it hadn’t opened! We had to settle for a choc croissant and smoothie from the station café instead! Our train was slightly delayed but we managed to get seats on the right hand side of the train so we’ll have good views of the coast when we get further south!
At the first stop after ours 2 police men got on and wondered through the coaches! Unsure why but we seemed to be at the station for ages!
Sat behind us was a basketball player, don’t think he was a pro but he was huge!! He was 6’’9 and had size 16 feet which equates to size 15 at home!!
We passed through some quite poor areas of California and some interesting sights, including the Santa Clara Valley with the Santa Cruz Mountain range and Mount Hamilton. We passed through Gilroy which is the Garlic capital of the world and where garlic grows at the side of the train tracks. They too make garlic ice cream like the café in San Francisco. We passed hundreds of Strawberry fields and lettuce patches. We passed through Soledad which is where the book ‘of mice and men’ by John Steinbeck was featured, we both studied this book at GCSE!
We travelled through mountain ranges which was exciting as we were just surrounded by them, finishing off nicely with a horseshoe bend where you could see most of the train.
We then reached the best bit of all, the ocean view! We had over 100 miles of it and it was amazing! At points we were travelling over the water and through deserted areas that are barely touched! The sun was starting to go down so the views were pretty, considering it had been cloudy all day!
We arrived early in LA, about 8.30pm. The Union Station was a spectacular building, very old and many original features still existed! We got a taxi to our hostel in Hollywood! Had a crazy driver but we made it in one piece. Tis a lively hostel and they have a comedy night tonight we may investigate! Didn’t see any celebs on our way in..I’m sure they’ll be around tomorrow though!
