The weather streak has been broken. We awoke to foggy wet weather. The last week has been simply fantastic, with clear skies and warm temperatures. As we arrived into Bar Harbour last night we could see the fog rolling in from the ocean.
Last night was a bit of an exercise. Our hotel was established on the present lot sometime before 1784 so you know that it's got some cracks in the foundation. Our room was the "Monarch" suite dressed up with so many flower patterns that I felt like I was out in a garden. At $120.00 US a night, I've begun to rethink the option of having a coach to travel the US in our twilight years.
When I got up this morning the Innkeeper passed me Ian's MacBook Dongle for transferring his pictures to his iPad. I inadvertently headed for our bedroom forgetting that I had his dongle on my lap. When I realized five minutes later that I had forgotten it on the couch I went back to the parlour, only to find that it was gone. The innkeeper told me that she had seen it on the floor just a minute earlier. I gazed at the other guests in the parlour, eyeing their computers to see who had Macs. Realizing that I rarely have the correct filter installed, I'm sure I made comments about the dishonesty of people in general. Only later did I find out that Ian had been through for breakfast and found his dongle on the floor. I had to make apologies to the other guests for my inappropriate comments - Bad Bob !
We've covered some 2,400 kilometers so far and the drive has not been bad at all because we've broken it up in to smaller sections. So with a break for lunch each day - t's been no problem. We arrived in Fredericton, New Brunswick about 5:00 p.m. - booked a room on Priceline (Ramada) and checked in to get cleaned up for dinner tonight.
It's been great to see the different landscapes between Toronto and here, generally quite a few trees on the sides of the highway, but views of the oceans and bays is quite striking. I've been on a quest for years now to replace the "Hot Turkey" sandwiches that I had as a youth at the Edgewater Hotel in Toronto - I think I've finally found the match - It's at Black's Cafe in Harvey N.B. It was a great lunch - thanks Makayala for bringing back a great memory.
Tomorrow we'll head to Charlottetown, P.E.I. and over the Conferderation Bridge. The plan is that we'll stay Tuesday and Wednesday night exploring the island and then head down to the Woods Ferry for the trip over to Nova Scotia. Apparently this will save us some 300km's of driving so for $77.00 it's really worth it. From there, we'll be on the Newfoundland ferry on the evening of the 22nd so we'll be on the rock the morning of the 23rd.Again, thanks for those comments, keep following us through the Maritimes.
