Another day is ending in Australia, and what a day it was. A very long one. I had set my alarmclock at 3.30 am to be ready at 4 am. But unfortunately I didn't hear the alarm. The only female roommate did hear it and woke me up. Thanks to her I was downstairs at 4 am. The only thing that went less smooth was my shuttle to the airport. I had asked for one at 4.10 am, and on the ticket was pr8inted that they sstart driving at 5. Of course there was no shuttle, and you can only phone that company from 7 am in the morning. Lazy b******s :P
I went to the trainstation for the train of 4.48 and with a bit of running I still made it to my flight in time. I had 3 seats all for myself so finally enough room to take a much needed powernap. The stewardess had to wake me up for the landing so that was the seond time on one day that someone shaked my arm. ;)
But this was Brisbane, my next destination in Australia. After dropping off my luggage I went straight to the tennis, it was so easy to reach, thank god. It is the invention of the century to let ppl use their tennistickets as tickets for public transport. i wish they would do that at home too! Just showing your tennisticket and you have free transport. AT 8 am it already felt bloody hot to me, hotter than in Sydney for sure, I won't tell you how it felt to me when it was noon, but I feel like a piece of toasted banana bread! (which is something that I absolutely love, need to find that at home too)
One more thing that I like is that they seem to be very concerned about the heat and about the skin of the tennisvisitors. We got free hats and there were several people with sunscreen. I must be red because when this guy saw me, he said 'oh you DEFINATELY need this' and before I knew what happened, he sprayed on my arms en my neck, and then continued with legs and feet and every part of skin he saw. I couldn't stop laughing, just like hte people all around me who saw it happen. Imagine the face of the poor security man at the entrance, who asked me shocked what they had done to me... Hahahahaha, how to start the day with a laugh, well like that ;)
For me it was hard during the day, I just couldn't be in the sun with this heat. They said it was onluy 34 degrees, but I am sure it was more around 40 there. So I watched a lot of practices, like the one from upcoming Aussie John Millman. I sat next to two men, who were chatting a bit with this guy in between. His practice partner was hitting the balls everywhere and he literally ran his ass off there. It was a nice surprise that after his practice, the guy walked up to the men with some energy drinks, and handed me one too. Maybe I didn't only look red, but also thirsty? However, it was a nice gesture for sure.
I mainly searched for shadow, so I have been whole day on court 2 for some doubles matches and on court 1 for the Nishikori-Robredo match. It felt good to see live tennis, although I was a bit too tired to make the best our of it. I nearly fell asleep at some points. But the doubles match of Jamie Murray and Colin Fleming was a nice one, and in the next match was an Aussie involved, Paul Hanley who teamed up with a certain Butarac, or something like that. Such a pity that team Raonic-Melzer was right in front of me, so I decided to clap a bit for both. :)
for the Nishikori match it felt like all the Japanese of Brisbane have come together there, it was so full that I was glad to have found one spot to sit. After this match I left the tournament, this was the max for me. The sun went down while I was on the way to the train.
Back in Brisbane I just have made a little stroll, because one of my plans for the next days is going to the Lone Pine Koala sanctuary and the cruise over the river departs from a certain point. I am not sure if I go there tomorrow or maybe I should go to Stradbroke Island tomorrow and have a nice day of cycling... What would you do?
Ah and one more thing. I originally planned 3 days of tennis in Sydney, but I am thinking of switching to two days and going one day extra surfing. I would like to become a bit better with the board in the sea... Then the only question is what day to go surfing. I am sure that all the men practice on sunday, but not sure if both Feli and Fer play on the same day.
So that is a lot to think about at this time of the day. btw, it is here an hour earlier than in Sydney, 22.19 at the moment. Time to get some pics online and then to the shower I go. Maybe I should make it an early night, to catch up with sleep.... like one of the new roommates. She was at 7 already in pyjamas and in her bed reading :O
See u later peeps! Koalas or cycling, cycling or koalas...
