Well then, the last 11 days in Melbourne has just flown by.
We arrived on Tuesday 1st and took the transfer to our pre booked hostel. What a lovely greeting, we were on the top floor. We struggled with all our luggage up the 4 flights of stairs. We're starting to get use to this top floor business!
On Wednesday 2nd, we thought we'd stock up some provisions so headed down to the supermarket. We were wandering down the aisle when who should we spot, but Joel from Neighbours. We couldn't believe it, he's so fine. What made it better is that we had to stand behind him in the queue aswell. We were too shy to ask for any photos so just stood and dribbled.
On Thursday 3rd, we finally booked some trips up for the East Coast which we can now look forward to. We did however have to sit with the travel agent for a couple of hours while he told not so funny jokes! He thought he was gods gift to women! When we got back to our room, we had new roomies. They were 3 Canadians and all we can really say over the internet is they were the roomies from hell! We had about 3 hours sleep and were not happy bunnies. The 3 of them also doubled in size in the middle of the night and one even climbed into bed with Marie (a drunk girl). Marie was ready to kill her! We werent intending to pop out for a couple of drinks that night but as they were playing loud drinking games in the small room, we had no choice.
On Friday, we were up early and making as much noise as possible to wake up our lovely roomies. We were quickly dressed though and swapped rooms, we were not having another night of that. We ventured into the city for a look around the market and the town but felt like zombies. That night it was a very early night for us. Our new roomies were lovely and quiet. Not that we're old biddies or anything but what we wnet through was a joke!
On Saturday, we didn't do much in the day but that night we thought we'd sit in with a couple of glasses of wine. How wrong could we have been. A couple of Scottish blokes got us playing drinking games which kind of put us in the mood for going out. We ended up quickly getting changed and catching the tram to the city. We ended up in a club called Bubbles and it was free champagne til 1am. We thought it was a good idea to take advantage of this which turned out to be a mistake. A good night out but worse hangover in history. Marie is never touching champagne ever, ever again!!!
On Sunday, we took a walk to the esplanade market. We ended up lazing around on the beach for the rest of the afternoon. Marie could not move anywhere fast.
On Monday 7th, it was neighbours day. We were picked up in the neighbours bus and visited Erinsborough high, Ramsey Street and the Studio. The street was a lot smaller than you think and not actually called Ramsey Street. On the way back we got to meet Dillon. He was really friendly and chatty. It was a mad rush to get ready and get out again for the neighbours night. We got ready in about 30 minutes (which is a record) and were down there for 6.30pm. We managed to grab one of the last seats however, not one of the best. The night started with Libby singing, who was actually pretty good. They then brought out Janelle, Connor, Madge and Karl. There was a quiz going on while the stars visited all the tables for photos and autographs. Janelle is actually thinner in real life, along with Madge. And what can we say, Dr K is not like his character. After meeting all the stars, Dr Karls band played and what can we say, he rocks. It is like seeing your dad up there dancing though. It was a real good, cheesy night.
On Tuesday, we went into the city to have a proper look around the shops.
On Wednesday, we went on a tour of the Great Ocean Road. It was a long day but worth while. The coastline is stunning. We saw Bells Beach where surfing first took off and the 12 Apostles. It was a good day, the only bad point was it was more like a mini bus than a coach. The seats were like standard bus seats, not very comfy.
On Thursday, we moved to a different hostel. This one is brand new and purpose built and even has a lift. We regretted trying to carry all our luggage as well as our wine, well we couldn't leave it behind could we. After checking in, we headed back to the City to have a look at the sites. We had a walk along the South Bank and visited the Immigration Museum. The sun had come out in the late afternoon so we had a walk around Fitzroy Gardens. As this hostel has its own bar and it was ladies night, we thought we should take a look. They had karoke on which was amusing to watch especially when a deranged russian bloke started singing Barbie Girl. Marie however, was not touching the free champagne. Krish did though, she wouldn't turn down a freebie.
Today, we're just having a nose about before heading off on a boat trip to see penguins later. The weather this week has been very mixed, when the sun is out though, its been glorious. Tomorrow, we get picked up at 6.30am and start our journey to Sydney. This will take 3 days with 2 overnight stops.
