After posting home our first parcel of souvenirs and tat that we had collected we set off downtown to take the Underground Tour of Seattle. Now for those of you that don't know Seattle was a crazy town in the late 1800's and it was close to Elliot Bay and on the tide flats.
Most of the buildings were made of wood and they used sawdust for the roads!!! So when a young boy called Jon left a block of glue melting and it set fire in 1889 you can imagine what happened next. The whole town was burned to the ground, well I say the whole town the local fire crew decided that to contain the fire they would use dynamite and blow up several buildings across the 36 square block area which did not help!!!
So when the shop owners rebuilt their stores the city came along and built a 10-15ft wall around the properties so now you walked along, went down a ladder did your shopping along the block and back up a ladder at the other end!!!
So when they built the sidewalks(pavements to you brits, and our kid) the 1st floor became totally encased with skylights!!!!
After the fantastically funny and informative history lesson we headed for the ballpark,we had another great evening out and got back home for around 11.15pm. We then were held hostage by a wasp for the next 30 minutes as neither of us would kill it!!!!!
Finally got to bed around midnight when most of you guys were just getting up I imagine or maybe you had been up for an hour if you were working!!!!
See you for another entry soon
Love M & M
