G'Day Sheilas
It has been our last day in Coffs Harbour, home of the "Big Banana" which is where we headed this morning after another lie in!!!
It was supposed to be a 20 minute walk to the Big Banana and Mel was really excited about seeing it, but after walking for just over 1 hour when we saw it we both started laughing and wondered why the hell we had walked all that way to look at a giant banana. I think the travelling and early mornings are starting to affect our mental state!!!!
The place sold everything you could imagine in the souvenir shop either shaped like a banana or with a banana stuck on it, and no we didn't buy anything!!!
Once the rain had stopped we took the 1 hour walk back and took a detour off to the marina and on the way we saw a wallaby in the woods on the trail as well as a yellow tailed cockatoo. Down at the marina is muttonbird island home for the muttonbird or wedge tailed shearwater where they dig their burrows each august then pair up for mating with the chicks being born in February. At their height there can be 12,000 birds nesting here. It was really blustery and the waves were crashing over the breakwall when we made our way back down from the top of the island. (which isn't an island!?!)
After the excitement of today we just decided to relax as we have another early start 5.30am to catch our 6.30 bus to Byron Bay. Most of you guys will still be up and will still need to go to bed, how bizarre is that!!!!
Lots of Love
M & M
