Well Guys it has been a scorching day here in Chicago. We went onto Union Station to collect our train passes for our 30 day rail adventure around America. We then decided to do something that we have not done in Chicago and take a guided boat tour from Navy Pier down through the Chicago River looking at the buildings and getting a good insight to the city. In true backpacker fashion we had saved some of our pizza from last night (which was delicious) and had that for lunch with a $5 ceasar salad which we shared sat on a bench by the pier, looking out over Lake Michigan. Then to save even more money we took the free shuttle from Navy Pier to the underground station where we squeezed the last few minutes out of our pass to get downtown (what a day for savings)
Took a look around Grant Park, including Buckingham Fountain (it is huge) then through the park onto Soldier Field and around by Shedd Aquarium and along the Lakeshore cycle path (but walking)
Sadly,we leave tomorrow on our first train journey just a quick 9 hour hop to our next destination, so we will be in touch from there.
