Well, the time in Perth is gone too… I've been here the last couple of days, basically just relaxing from the last 3 busy weeks. The weather is getting hotter now. When I arrived, it was only 15°C, now the temperature gets up to 31°C
On Friday, I only walked around town a little bit and watched the "Turning on the Xmas-lights Festival" in the evening, not bad; it was quiet entertaining with the guy from ABC and lots of singing and dancing children. And at the end of the show there was a Santa coming...
On Saturday, after changing the Hostel, I "tried" to spend all my money I saved. Well, not really - but I nearly did. God, I hate shopping. But it's probably the last opportunity anyway!
The next day I actually wanted to walk around and have a look what's the City like, but I ended up sleeping till midday. So I decided to go to Fremantle to spend the afternoon there. First when I got there I visited the Fremantle Markets. Inside you'll find a dazzling array of goods from around WA and around the world. There's everything from furnishings, prints, pottery and cane ware to authentic antiques, unusual jewellery, great clothing, jarrah products, dried wildflowers, opals and local shells etc. After a while I got very tired. But I came here to go to "prison", so I did - ha ha ha… Well, Fremantle prison is just a monument to an uncomfortably recent system of punishment. You just get taken back in time on death row, solitary confinement or the gallows! They take you around and tell you lots of stories and show you the cells and the yards in which the prisoners painted the walls - interesting!
Monday then was just a LAZY DAY, I slept till midday again and spent about 3-4 hrs in front of my laptop. Afterwards I went into town and had another look around the shops (without buying anything) I allowed myself a nice waffle with ice cream and chocolate sauce - yummy!!!
The planned City Tour I was going to do on Sunday, I finally did yesterday. I went to the Perth mint first - one of the world's oldest mints, still operating from its original premises. I watched a very interesting gold pouring performance, thinking if I might get something to take home I even manufactured my own gold metal coin… Around midday I went to the Botanical Gardens and spent the rest of the day walking around, very exhausting… That was basically it what I did around here. I would have done more if I wouldn't have spent that much money on Saturday!
Shame on me!!!
Tomorrow then I'm off again; I'm doing a 5 Day Tour around the South-West area of WA, and then I wanted to continue heading north to Exmouth, followed by Broome. But I can't fly anywhere from Exmouth, so I have to come back to Perth with the Tour I'm going to do and unfortunately I have to miss out on Broome!!!!!!! What a shame, but I can't do anything, because my Visa expires and I don't have much time left
Well, we'll see what happens…
