Our activities for Friday and Saturday in Adelaide centred around wine, well the area is well known for it and who doesn't like wine!
On Friday we had opted for a full day Barossa valley wine tour, our bus picked us up at about 9am and after a couple of other pick-ups the twenty of us were on our way to the first of the wineries. We had to take a slightly less scenic route than normal, due to the bush fires, but still it allowed us to see quite a bit of Adelaide before we got to the first of our tastings. Over the course of the day we reckon we got around 42 tastings at the 4 wineries, Yaldara Estate, Peter Lehmann wines, Langmeil winery and Murray Street vineyards. A nice lunch was also thrown in which soaked up a little of the wine! We tried a variety of whites, red, sparkling reds, rose and fortified wines, a good innings all round, we did manage to stay awake on the return journey unlike some of the fellow tourists! We continued the wine drinking in the hotel lounge and decided just to have our dinner there after a long tough day!
It was raining again on Saturday so the morning consisted of nothing more than a bit of shopping and relaxing, the plan was then to head for some more wine tasting and a lunch at a winery called "The Lane" which was in a place in Adelaide Hills called Hahndorf. It was a 30 minute drive from the CBD which took us in a South Easterly direction. The winery was beautiful, we sampled 15 different wines before embarking on a 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food and wine were real good, as were the views. It was soon time to head back to the hotel for a few more drinks in the lounge before calling it a night and saying a very sad farewell to Adelaide.
