Day 36 - Brisbane (Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary)
Wakey wakey rise and shine today we're off to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.
After our healthy McDonald's breakfast we jump on the bus and 30 mins later we arrive at Lone Pine and its brilliant from the moment you walk in the entrance! They have several birds and one of the first that you walk past is a Cockatoo that says 'hello' as you walk by it was well cool! There is a board at the front of its enclosure that lists all of the words it can say but it only seems to manage hello .. never mind it was still impressive.
There are lots of koala's in trees all around us and yes the majority of them were asleep but it doesnt matter cause they still look really cute and cuddley
We went into the Platypus bit next as neither of us have ever seen one before. There was only one but as we arrived quite early we were lucky enough to witness feeding time and then it show off afterwards with lots of swimming around its tank.
We then went to the main koala part so that I could hold one (only $16) you get a professional picture and then get to take as many of your own so it isn't too bad. I got to hold Violet who is apparently 'quite a picky koala' so I had to keep my hand on her bum as she didn't like people touching her back etc. She was heavier than I expected but even up close they still look like cuddley little toys. Si took some of our own pics and was praying that Violet would either poo or wee on me but she was good thankfully! It was a nice surprise as well when we went to collect my picture they had put some extra ones in that I hadn't paid for, bonus!
Next it was off to the Kangaroos! We bought a feed bag and as soon as we walk into the area we're greeted by a massive Emu. I fed it some of the pellets but then it started to follow us so we had to make a break for it over to the kangaroos! I made my way around and fed quite a few of them even a really young one. I think that one was my favourite it even put its paws in my hand when it wanted more and then licked my hands it was so cute. The feed bag only cost $1 but it lasted ages there was plenty to go around for all my furry friends!
We continued around and saw all of the other animals including a goat that wanted to eat my jumper before getting the bus back to the hostel for some dinner, a much needed sit down and a look back at all of the lovely animal pictures we took through the day.
