Day 51 - Great Ocean Road/Twelve Apostles/Apollo Bay
Our first early start for a while as we're off to the Great Ocean Road today.
We're out the door by 9 and after a McD's breakfast are soon on our way to the Great Ocean Road!
Si is doing his usual getting fidgety from sitting still for too long and me and Lou are trying not to fall asleep (being back seat passengers is very tiring) but after about 3 hours we arrive at the beginning of the Great Ocean Road and all hop out for our pictures took in front of the big wooden sign. After this the road gets pretty curvy and Jason is a loving it!
We had a quick stop in Lorne and then set the sat nav to the hostel where we're staying for the night in Apollo Bay and soon discover that the Great Ocean Road isn't just along the ocean. The scenery changes from beaches to forest but the road is just as curvy! It's a good job none of us get car sick!
We arrive in Apollo Bay and check-in at the hostel, park the car and scope out the area for later on. Jason heads straight for the Carlton Draught sign (the local beer) and we have a pub lunch just around the corner from the hostel. Once our bellies were full we got back in the car and began our journey to the Twelve Apostles which was about 1 hour and 30 mins from where we were staying.
We get out of the car when we arrived at the Twelve Apostles and the wind is ridiculously strong! We head down the wooden walkway to the viewing points to take some pics and you'll see from the photo's just how windy it was! We couldn't wear our hats because we would have lost them so our ears were stinging and me and Lou gave up trying to move our hair out of our faces. I had to hold onto Si so I wouldn't blow away and he couldn't keep his arm still because of the wind when trying to take the pics ... definately the windiest place I have ever been! The Apostles are very impressive to look at, apparently there aren't twelve of them anymore but we didnt count how many are left.
After braving it for as long as we could we jumped back in the car and back to the hostel for a few beers before heading out for tea and more drinks in the local pub. Several hours of drinking later we staggered back to the hostel to call it a night and were all pretty much unconscious the moment our heads hit the pillow!
