We were up earlyish on Saturday morning and as we were the only ones in our hotel having breakfast, they kindly brought it to us so we could have it on our balcony. We had the scooter for one more day so once we were ready we followed the recommended route on the map we had been given and visited some of the sites around Pai. We went to the coffee in love shop, love strawberry shop, another temple, Pai Canyon and to the memorial bridge. It was good to get out on the scooter again as the breeze definitely helps bring the temperature down as it must have been nearly 40 degrees.
After having lunch, we relaxed on the balcony for the rest of the afternoon. On Saturday night, we went into town to grab some tea. I picked up a Pad Thai and fried rice as I was feeling rather peckish and Beth got some mango and a crepe. We sat on the balcony with a few drinks as Beth had picked up a strawberry liqueur which she loves and says is really strong.
Sunday was Beth's birthday as she has been reminding me for weeks. We again had breakfast on the balcony and then we went into town to drop the scooter off. As it was her birthday, Beth really wanted some cake to celebrate so she picked up some chocolate cake and we retreated back to the hotel to nurse slight hangovers. After speaking to most of our friends and family via Skype or FaceTime, we had arranged to meet Bart and Tessa, a Dutch couple we met on Friday for tea and a few drinks. We met them at 7.30 and unfortunately the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed. We ended up going to the restaurant across the road called the Spice market and the food was really good. Bart and Tessa had bought Beth a postcard and a bracelet which nearly reduced her to tears. We had a great night talking about ours and their travels and we will hopefully meet up again in Laos as our paths should cross. We ended up not leaving the restaurant until about half 11 so we had a quick nightcap to celebrate the last of Beth's birthday on the balcony.
To be perfectly honest, we haven't really done a lot today as we are both a little bit hungover. We've booked our bus back to Chiang Mai for 8am tomorrow morning from where we will hopefully catch another bus to Chiang Rai. It promises to be at least 6 hours of travelling in a cramped minivan. We've loved our time in Pai and it is really chilled out. There isn't a great deal to do but renting a scooter and going around town is a good way to see the area. We've really enjoyed our hotel and particularly sitting on the balcony at night with a few drinks listening to some music. Now it's back on the travelling trail with two more nights in Thailand before we go to Laos.
