I'm not going to lie and say that we have an amazing amount to right about over our last few days in Langkawi. Generally, most of the days have been the same in the we've got up quite late, headed to the beach then had a late lunch followed by another couple of hours on the beach before we've went out for an evening meal. We've loved it!!!
We did decide to go out for a few drinks on Sunday night as Newcastle were playing and I can't resist watching us play no matter how bad we are. So we went to an Irish bar we had seen in town for about 7.30 and asked if they would show the game. The girl behind the bar said they would put it on the small screen in the corner as the Olympic ice hockey final was on the main screen and there was loads of Swedish people in the bar watching that. We happily sat down and tucked into a nice cold pint of Tiger (Beth had a white wine) and watched the ice hockey players beat the crap out of each other. About half an hour before the game, we noticed that another couple had came into the bar and asked for the Liverpool game to be put on. Beth sensed this and marched straight over to the bar to remind the girl that we had asked first and she agreed that she would put our game on. Apparently the guy from Liverpool said why would we want to watch Newcastle when we would get beat anyway but fortunately we got a last minute winner and unfortunately he missed Liverpool win 4-3 in one of the games of the season!! We had a good night anyway.
We've liked Langkawi as we've been able to go out for good meals every night and its felt as though we're actually on holiday. The beach is great and, although our hostel isn't the best, we would definitely recommend Langkawi. Malaysia as a whole has been fantastic and we have really enjoyed our two and a half weeks here. The weather's been amazing and the people have been so helpful and friendly. The thing that I think stands out for both of us though is the food. Whether its because we have come from Australia and New Zealand where we have been eating a lot of western food we aren't sure but the mix of food on offer in Malaysia has been great. We've really enjoyed the Indian food but the local and Chinese food has also been fantastic and I think this will be our abiding memory of the country.
We are now off to Thailand in the morning which involves a bus, a ferry, another bus and then another two ferries to get to our destination of Koh Lanta. Unfortunately it's another week on the beach so Beth is giddy with excitement although she isn't happy that I'm beating her in the tanning stakes.
