Hello all
We arrived safely in Australia now, after an eventful last day in Africa.
A big thank you to Adam's friend Butch who popped by to visit before we left, bringing lovely gifts - thanks so much Butch, it was great to see you. Please email us a copy of the picture if you can (read on to find out why!).
Unfortunately what we failed to mention in the last blog was that Mair accidently deleted nearly all of our Africa photos whilst fiddling around with the camera on our last day! Yes nearly all our photos! Needless to say we didnt talk for a little while around Robben Island!
Anyway, we borded our flight to Jo'Burg, and after hearing so much about the place we were determind that we would only see the airport. As we changed terminal and walked into departures for our plane to Perth we were greeted with a dead body! Someone had been murdered in the middle of the airport and was lying on the floor surrounded by police interviewing a few witnesses. The body was covered with a sheet, but it was too short and the person's shoeless feet were sticking out the bottom. The general public didnt seem to batter an eyelid...obviously a regular occurance in Jo'Burg!
When we got on the plane Adam had a case of African belly, and was determind not to let the air stewards notice as we knew we wouldnt be allowed to fly and there was no way we were spending a night in Jo'Burg! But the bugs got the better of him and he started vomiting before the plane set off. We were asked to get off the plane but blagged desperatley that he had a dairy allergy and had eaten some cheese by accident and was now fine after getting it all out!!!!! They bought it and we were allowed to stay...phew...a very close call. Poor Adam sweated out the bugs the entire flight, arriving in Perth about a stone lighter.
We spent a lovely few days with James and Sam (thanks so much guys we really appreciated your hospitality!). Perth is a really relaxed place. We chilled out in King's park with a picnic on sat. It has amazing views over the city. We visited Cottleslowe beach on sunday not really thinking that the rest of Perth would be doing the same thing! So after sampling some local wine we headed to Freemantle, or Freeo as the aussies call it. We're getting pretty good at the lingo now, basically you put an O on the end of everything...Freeo, Servo (service station), arvo (the afternoon)...you get the jist!
We also visited the home of the Western Australian Warriors (Cricket); the WACA! We watched WA v Tasmania (disappointingly not called the Tasmanian Devils but the Tigers) for a few hours in the sunshine.
Now its off to Adelaide to visit some family and the home of Australian wine! Yum!
