When we landed we made our way to the metro to go to our hotel. We got to Expo hotel which was on the outskirts of the old town. It was a pretty modern hotel and had a good breakfast range. We went wandering into the old town. There was a river until the 50's which went around the town but when the banks burst and it flooded the city they decided to route the water away from the city. They turned the old river bed into the Turia Gardens. After a while of wandering and using google maps we found a nice looking little restaurant and had some tapas. Well, when in Spain! We looked in some mini castles which had great views over the city. We saw the Mercado central which was shut and the Llotja de la Seda (silk exchange) We went to Saint Mary's Cathedral which was beautiful. We even saw a Ladbrokes Sportium. We went and sat on the roof top pool for a bit and Rich got a bit burnt. Later that night we went for dinner and had some red wine. Well I think the combination of red wine, food and sun didn't agree with me as I didn't feel great once we got back to the hotel. I think the food was quite heavy for me as well and my tummy never likes that.
We decided the best way to get around Valencia quickly and see the main sights was on an open top bus. On route we saw Plaza de Toros which looks like a Colosseum but was a bull fighting ring. Plaza de Toros Plaza de Toro We saw the Plaza del Ayuntamiento which was a really pretty fountain surrounded by beautiful buildings. It is also known as the town hall square. We stopped at the city of Arts and Science museum and went for a look around, there were cool little experiements you could do. They were really funky buildings but really cool. They had these large statues of sweets in different colours for the countries so we took our picture with the British one. There were big fountains there as well. For dinner we went to Italian restaurant that Martina recommended called Eal Ponodoro. It was delicious and in the main square Plaza de la Virgin and the Catheral quarter. We had some hams and little wraps to start. I had a pesto pasta and Richard had these wraps like qaesadillas and it was so darn good. We even went for desserts which we don't normally have. Afterwards we went for a walk and took some pictures around the square. It was really pretty and was very busy. Plaza de la Virgin Plaza de la VirginThe next day we went to the beach on the tram. We spent the day lapping up the beautiful sunshine on the beach. We went to get some lunch and it was ok but wasn't overly great. It was a place on the beach front so was probably not the best choice. Later that night we went into the square and fancied a paella dish so we waited a while and got this massive dish of it with mussles in it, it took a while and when we got it we struggled with it. We then stopped for a little dessert of a crepe and whipped cream. We throughly enjoyed the food in Valencia. The last day we chilled on the roof top pool for the day to top up our tans before we headed home. After cooking for a few hours we headed off to get some food. I had a swordfish dish and Richard had a calamari. We throughly enjoyed Valencia for our first trip together.
