Margaret in Wonderlands..
We landed at 1am and went to our shuttle area and got on a mini bus. We were the second drop off so it worked out well for us. We got to the hotel for 3ish and checked in and fell asleep. We woke up about 9ish and went to check out breakfast. When we walked out of our room we were taken back by the beautiful scenary. We were overlooking the beautiful bay up in the mountains. We had read the reviews so we knew this was going to be the best part. It had a great view of the paragliders which was a popular thing to do out here. Breakfast was served beside our room amongst these gorgeous vines and the hotel was obviously on a hill so had a lovely view. Breakfast consisted of boiled eggs, lovely fresh bread, goats cheese, cucumber, olives and tomatoes and jams. It was gorgeous! When we went to sit down the first morning the wasps wouldn't leave us alone so we went to sit inside the hut. Apparently wasps love the eggs for the protein so we avoided eggs for the next week, so we could enjoy sitting outside in the gorgeous scenary.
We were told that the travel rep would be around at 10am to talk us through the holiday options. We chose a Turkish bath and massage, evening sunset boat cruise with dinner and an all day boat trip sailing from Fethiye with lunch included. It only cost £40 so was a real bargain. We went to sit by the pool for an hour before we went for our Turkish bath. At the Turkish bath we changed into our swim suits and then were directed to the sauna. We sat there for 10-15 mins and as we sat in there a guy slipped on the steps outside the sauna which looked really painful. We then went into this massive room where we lay on the middle warm round centre piece. Two men came in and the proceeded to give us a scrub to start with, they then washed us down. They then got these bandage looking things. sort of threw them about and covered us in suds and then massaged us. It was really relaxing and really good. We then went for a quick look around to have a look at the centre of Olu Deniz before we met our transfer back to the hotel with a stop for water on the way. That afternoon we sat by the pool and then had dinner in the hotel. They did big dishes of different foods and you could eat as much as you wanted. The chef servered the first section which was soup and then normally meats and potatoes. The food was really good at the hotel so we ate there most nights. The first night the main meat was chicken skewers with lots of options for side dishes.
Sunday we sat by the pool most the day. There were no kids and all English people around the hotel. Some of the women loved a loud chat with each other but everyone was friendly. In the afternoon, we got news that Lilly Eve Mansfield was born which was great news. Later on after some roasting we decided to check out the town and caught the Dolmus down. The Dolmus was a mini bus that ran really frequently between Fethiye and Olu Deniz. It cost 3 lira which was about a pound and was a 5 min drive down. We headed for a walk around and it was like a mini strip with lots of bars and souvenir shops. We decided to eat at a place called Sultans bar. I saw them bring out a big puffed up bread which James had told me about, this was their free bread. You got a little dip with it and it was really filling. Rich chose some meatballs and I went for these meat stuffed pittas. I greedily ordered a side of chips but I couldn't eat them all. I think the starter bread did me in. Every so often a guy would come out and dress up in a sultans outfit and light a flaming pot with some music and take it to a table. I have no idea what was in the pots but they did this about 4 times whilst we were there. It was a really nice meal but we were stuffed. Funnily a girl at the next table was moaning about her lasagne not being lasagne and the waiter said to her why come to a Turkish restaurant and order Italian, don't think they were to impressed but he had a point. We then went to change some money and collect a lot of water from 'Azda' before we headed back to the hotel.
On the Monday we went to go to the Blue Lagoon which is a national geographic location. We couldn't get on a dolmus as they were packed so we walked down the hill to the blue lagoon. You paid to get in the national park but only a coupld of quid. We ended up doing a loop around as we tried to find a place to sit for the day. It looked like you could walk around to the right to the other side but this was not reachable from where we were. In the end we went to sit on the end of the point where they had the pedlos. It was a stoney beach but absolutely stunning. The water was so clear and bluey/green. Rich had started to develop a cold so he was feeling a bit rough, the timing sucked big time. He didn't fully get over it until we got home. I picked up a little bit of it on the Tuesday for 2 days but luckily it didn't hit me hard as I took my berocca and had the honey at breakfast. We spent the day there relaxing and swimming. You could see all the paragliders and other water sports going on. They had one where someone was on this thing which would power off out of the water. It looked hard but very funny when they would face plant the water. We then walked back into town and had our first kebab from a take away and sat on the greenery whilst we ate it. We then got the bus back to the hotel and chilled out for a bit before getting ready for dinner.
On Tuesday after breakfast, we got the bus to Fethiye. We then went for a walk through it which didn't take to long but it was very busy. It was a mix of the usual, foods, sweets, cheese, clothes, perfume etc. The last part was a food section but it was to early for a kebab :) They had knock off bags and I was tempted by one, a Michael Kors one but couldn't be bothered to haggle as well. We didn't stay to long as we weren't buying anything and Rich still wasn't 100%. We got back to the hotel for early afternoon and went to our usual spot by the pool. We stayed by the pool until half 4 and then went to get ready for our evening boat cruise as we were being picked up by 5.45. We went off to our boat cruise and they were big boats. One of them had a slide which came out in the sea, that looked fun! On the boat next to us, they had a pirate and parrot and Rich was very jealous! We sat sail heading towards the sunset which was hidden by some islands. They were trying to get people to buy lots of drinks which was to be expected. They also had a private photographer taking the cheesey shots. We took some photos at the head of the boat and it was very pretty. Once the sun was mostly down, they took us off to an island. We didn't really know what was going on but they jumped off with a chainsaw and cut down part of a tree then jumped back on and we sailed off. All very random! Even a private boat that was moored, the people were looking at our boat. Clearly they wanted a romantic spot and then we came along. They played music loudly and it was funny as we went through another spot where boats had moored for clearly a quiet time. And this big boat went sailing through with music blaring. They then served dinner. Again it was a choice of fish or chicken and lots of different sides. We then pulled up to another little beach where they docked and we sat by a big bonfire. The bonfire was made out of the wood they stole and plastic bottles and some kind of fuel and tar! Very healthy and totally good for the environment. They then tried to get people up dancing but it was really akward. After a while they then did a girls belly dancing competition. There was a couple on the boat and they were really annoying. They jumped to the front of the queue when food came out and just thought they were something. They were wandering around in swimsuits so must have been on the boat earlier. The girl went to do belly dancing and she clearly loved herself. A young girl in a family next to us went and did some dancing and she was always going to be the obvious winner. After an hour or so we headed back to land. I was feeling rather sneezy so was glad to be heading back to the hotel.
On the Wednesday we just had a lazy pool day especially as Rich still wasn't well. I really enjoyed the milkshakes they did at the hotel. And they did some nice chips (they were deep fried) but sooo good. We stayed in that night and had dinner at the hotel and then watched some films on TV, very rock and roll! On the Thursday we were booked on an all day boat trip which set sail from Fethiye. We were picked up at 9.15 from our hotel. It was a beautiful sail boat and was pretty busy. We sat ourselves upstairs on some cushions and got chatting to a couple from Essex, they were really lovely and spent a lot of the day speaking to them. We did 4 stops on the trip. The first one was near a cove and you could jump off into the sea. They then served us some gorgeous lunch. I had chosen chicken with some salad and bread. It was all very yummy!! The second was a gorgeous mini island, we got off and went walking off to the peak where we took some gorgeous pictures. The water was stunning, beautiful bluey/green. We then had two further stops off, again two spots where you could jump into the sea. On the last one I was determined to jump in but kept bottling it. An elderly man even went to chuck me in :) Eventually one of the guys who worked on the boat chucked me in. It was bloody cold and very salty! Was glad I did get in though! They then put the masts up and we sailed back of the trip. They played the titanic song for a laugh. It was such a lovely day, relaxing whilst sailing around. Once we got back around 5, they took us back to the hotel. We showered and had dinner at the hotel again as it was lovely.
Friday was our last full day and we decided to spend it by the pool. Rich did wander off to get some water and a magnet and change some money up. It was a gorgeous hot day and we made the most of it especially as we knew a storm was heading our way. We stayed at the hotel that night as well and enjoyed our last 3 course meal.
Our last day, we woke up to the storm from the previous night clearing. It was much cooler and more rain was forecast. We ate our last breakfast and then finished our packing. We went to sit by the pool and no one was really up there. The cushions were hung over the balcony to let them dry off. A little bit of sunshine came over so we enjoyed that. Around 2ish it started to cloud over so we headed to eat some lunch. As we sat inside it started to rain and when I say rain, I mean a good old downpour. After that it rained until we were picked up which was a shame. We played a bit of pool and table tennis to kill some time as we had 4 hours until our pick up. We didn't extend our room as they wanted £20 and we only had a few hours to kill. We got changed into jeans and jumpers and got in our mini bus back to the airport. At the airport there were KFC, Mc D's and Pizza hut and it cost a fortune but they knew people would pay it. It was like £9 for a Mc D's! We then went and sat and Rich watched some footy. When we landed back at Gatwick, I couldn't get hold of the taxi company Paul had recommended which was annoying! We used the airport one which was double the original cost but we couldn't do much! It was nice to get home but we did miss the heat of Turkey. Luckily the weather was quite nice in England when we arrived back.
