An early start with 420kms to Eucla WA.
The next Quarantine Station is at Border Village and the restrictions of what can be taken into WA is vast. Nothing fresh at all, only frozen or cooked food - definitely no honey! We are searched like criminals from top to toe, including the van and car, and even the glove box.
The vegetation on the Nullarbor has amazed us. It is green, with lots of trees along the way and will then change into very low saltbush and flat, dry grasslands. Not at all what we expected.
We were told, however, that as there had been quite a lot of rain, the Nullarbor looks the best it has for about seven years or so, so we were lucky. And I don't know why people say that "it's boring". We just loved the whole experience, and the road was just fantastic.
As we neared the Nullarbor Roadhouse, we could see sand hills in the distance on the Great Australian Bight. We had lunch at the Roadhouse and headed into Eucla Caravan Park.
This park was just fantastic, right on the Great Australian Bight.
We took a walk out to the edge of the park which overlooked the ocean, and visited the Travellers Cross which is dedicated to all the Christian workers who worked on the Eyre Highway. There were several small memorials containing the ashes of some of these workers.
We have now found another 15 A'vanners on the long trek West. It was a fun night with a happy crowd at happy hour and went to sleep to the sounds of the ocean, although it is now very windy and quite cold.
Interesting fact - Eucla is 45 minutes ahead of the rest of WA and confused us no end, as we had already had a time change into WA and now a different time change for about 100kms and then back to WA time.
