Sunday 11th June - Long Weekend in Tumby Bay SA
A very early start and a cold morning. We are sorry to leave Streaky Bay but have to keep moving now.
We drove 266 to Coffin Bay and decided to have seafood for lunch here, as Coffin Bay is renowned for it, particularly their oysters. However, we are both non oyster eaters, so fish on the menu for us.
I feel like I am repeating myself, but what a delightful little town this is. Once again, a bakery, a very well stocked Foodland, and a coffee shop. It was a pretty caravan park with lots of trees and zillions of very chatty lorrikeets. After they went to nest, it was just so very, very quiet.
Each afternoon Ross Story and his trusty Clydesdale horse hitch up at the reception area waiting for tourists to join him on a tour of the town. It was a very cute sight each after to see him clip cloping around the park drumming up business.
Monday 12th June
After enjoying our relaxing coffee at The Ritz, overlooking the Bay, we headed into Port Lincoln for the day.
Port Lincoln, situated on Boston Bay, is famous for it's seafood and boasts one of the largest fishing fleets in Australia. It is also a natural deepwater harbour so makes it attractive to large bulk grain carriers for topping up loads from shallow ports in South Australia and Victoria. We drove around the grain handling terminal and it is just massive.
Boston Bay is very beautiful but reminds me of Wollongong with the port just sitting at the end of the bay and is always visible.
After meandering around the town and the lookouts, we headed home to Tumby Bay. It is a very sunny 20 degrees, but gets very cold once the sun sets.
