A very relaxing morning which merely consisted of checking out, eating breakfast and updating my journal. After which I was picked up by Joe, another friendly tour guide who was going to help me continue on the tour which I had started two days earlier.
Once again I managed to pre-empt the guide and eat an ice cream at the hostel before being taken to an ice-cream factory. Genius. Well I suppose you can never have too much ice cream when you are in the rainforest and the ice cream at this factory was hardly a Cornetto. You could pick from hundreds of different flavours including:
Black Sapote
Goji Berry
Passion Fruit and Ginger (my choice)
Dragon fruit
Sweet Potato and Ginger
Guiness
Avocado
And hundreds more. All served by the very dedicated and hard working Betty; owner, creator, icecream maker and vendor. Amazing.
We then went to a lovely look out - was a little distracted here by the fact that I had some phone signal for the first time in a week but it was a lovely view.
Mossman Gorge followed, where I opted to take the scenic walk rather than a dip in the water as I had a 15 hour bus journey to look forward to later on and I didn't want to stink for the next two days. The walkway was newly built and was the best one I have been on so far. The swing bridge swung wonderfully and the birds played their part beautifully. It was incredibly peaceful as everyone else was busy swimming so for the first time I managed to really look at the forest and I saw that it was good.
Next stop: Port Douglas. Not really a port I knew much about but I soon learnt enough... This was where Fool's Gold was filmed, where Steve Irwin got stung and died and where Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski had one of their rendez vous. Fascinating! Oh it was a pretty nice place too. Very expensive and not built for back packers but for a honeymoon. If you win the lottery then staying in the 'Shantra Hotel' with 5 acres of swimming pool could be fun.
Here is where I probably saw the funniest yet most dangerous thing yet. When Joe dropped us off he was totally unaware that one of the girls had gone into the trailor attached to the back of the bus to get something out of her bag. So he merrily drove off with the trailer door open, poor French girl stuck inside clinging onto MY BAG so it wouldn't fall out of the back along with her.
I was reunited with my bag shortly afterwards but the poor girl looked like she had been spin dried. Very funny.
I said goodbye to Ellen and Joe here which was a little sad but I am sure they were very much looking forward to some alone time by then.
At 5:30pm Joe dropped my bag and I off at Nomads Cairns where I bumped into two very familiar and sexy girls... Megan Fox and Natalie Portman! Well no, even better, Amy and Lissie!
We spent the evening tucking into our lovely $2 pasta and after dropping my bag off at a very expensive hotel reception desk in town we made our way to Ladies Night in the Woolshed in Cairns. Aptly named we soon discovered. Topless male waiters, free champagne for all the ladies, dancing on tables, a great game of 'Meal or No Meal' where one lucky girl won clothes, money and a tour up to the rainforest and 2'4'1 drinks promotions too! It was a great evening and it was lovely to see the girls once again but at 11:30 I was once again at the Greyhound bus stop waiting for my 15hour bust trip to Airlie Beach. Packing in the fun and loving it!
