Macklen's Euro Trip
this pic is of Paris on the Siene River and one of the many bridges that bring the two sides of the city together.
On Tuesday the 6th we woke up and left to go outside the main city of Paris to Versaille. In this area is a beautiful Versaille Palace Chateu. It is an enormous palace with miles of gardens and a mile-long lake. It was used by the kings and queens of France...and now it on display to the masses...for a kind of small fee. We saw beautiful room after room...and then a hall of mirrors...that is covered in gold, chandelieers, a wall of mirrors, and glorious open windows that open to the 'back yard'...which is modestly, eh...full of lines of perfectly manicured trees, pines, tall green mazes, flowers, fountains, and trails that were perhaps used by the royalty to leisurely roll along with their horses. It was beautiful! We packed a lunch earlier in the day of a baguette, fruit, and water to eat on the side of the rectangular lake.
After lunch we layed in the sun and napped for about an hour, then walked back up to the palace to leave....except we got some ice cream as a treat (Dad...we do this about every day...the vacation routine!!! to have an 'icecream!'...i think of you each time!)
On our way back to main city Paris, we split up and Patrick and Meghan went shopping while I went to the train station to stand in line for an hour to reserve my next train ticket. I have to reserve my train seats in each city I come to...before I leave on teh next train...
We met up to have pizza and wine again on the green hill. It was cheap, enjoyable, and nice to spend the time out in the evening. The sun sets in about three hours here...so we hung out there until about 10:30pm - and the sun still hadn't set! We went to a nearby Montmarte cafe where we sat outside on the patio and had a drink, then back to the hostel for sleep!
