My cousin and sister arrived in Cancún so thought we'd hit the town, but first decided that we'd polish off a bottle of vodka and play kings cup with a 63% proof bottle of Jamaican rum at the hostel.
Many cruel rounds later we headed into town and delighted our taxi man by trying our best to have a conversation with him in Spanish (without the company of our trusty phrase book). As it turns out, we came to the sad conclusion that none of us knows any Spanish. It's a work in progress.
More great notions were had and we ended up paying $20 at Congo bar for all you can drink. The night ended with a trusty Burger King and a game of who-could-sneak-the-most-amount-of-food-into-the-other-persons-drink. A great night all round.
Next morning, the hangovers were delightful and no better cure than a lie on the beach. We thought we'd try a beach nearby but it was a seaweed infested kiddies paddling pool so we paid the bit extra to go to further along the strip back to Playa Marlin. It's beside a really fancy upmarket Brown Thomas style mall so going in for some air con and ice cream seemed a bit cheeky dressed in beachwear covered in sand!
Needless to say we did not go out that night and ended up having dinner on the strip in our lovely "El Caminero" restaurant. There was a group if Americans shouting their asses off beside us which added some atmosphere. Went back to Mezcal hostel for a nice rest and departed the next morning for the bus journey to Tulum to see the Mayan ruins.
