The train journey to bergen was lovely, lots fo snow covered mountains and lakes but half way through we hit a blizzard which meant we didnt see much for a while, althoguh it was fun at the stops to jump out the train for a few mins in the blizzard, this was hard core snow, not what we have in the UK. We both drifted in and out of sleep and played many games of trumps (think the score is 14-10 at the mo) for most the journey.
When we arrived in Bergen the first task was to find somewhere to sleep, luckily we found a really good place in town which wasnt to pricey so we dumped our stuff and headed out to check out the town. We went to a reccommended bar called the Penguin which served local fish and beer. We tried a few of the local brews which were quite nice, one an IPA which was lovely and the second was a smoked beer called Holy Smoke, tased a bit strange but was drinkable. That evening there didnt seem to be much going on so after walking around town for a bit we headed back to catch up on some sleep.
The next day we headed up to the top of the montain behind Bergen. It was really nice up tehre and gave us some awesome views. There was a lovely mountain top forest with a few lakes that we walked around, it was like Narnia, check the pics. After coming back down we had a walk round town and checked out the old fort which was interesting. We also had a walk through the fish market and crooked houses area, the oldest area of town. For lunch we had 2 sandwiches and 2 cups of tea.....how much do you think it cost??? 30 bleeding pounds!
Again that evening not much was happening so we had another sleep to recharge as the next day we boarded MS Midnatsol for our Hurtigruten cruise up to the Arctic Circle
We boarded the ship late afternoon and had a look about the ship, it was surreal what we were seeing, who would have thought Maher and Smith would ever end up on such a luxury cruise. We had dinner in Bergen port before we set sail at 10:30 and holy crap what a feast we were given, so much food, the selection of fish and meat was incredible...needless to say we stuffed ourselves so full that we couldnt move for a while but it was well worth it!
