After getting over the devastation of losing my camera and the 350 photos that I never uploaded, i stumbled around in the barcelona heat. We checked out a few historical sites (Gaudi's Sagrada Familia) before myself and a few of the other boys made the trek to the Nu Camp AKA Barcelona Football Club. We did the tour of the museum and the ground. The club has so much history and pride. I think the experience has converted me to a passionate barca supporter.
That night we went to Port Olympica which is down on the water near the beaches. There were loads of nice restaurants and clubs. I tried paella which was awesome and then hit one of the tourist bars. Was a good night. I think Ill need to go back to Barca.
From Barcelona it was back to France, to the French Riviera of Nice and Monte Carlo. Was a massively long drive. We didn't check in till about 8 or 9 for memory, we had some dinner then took some drinks to the local beach. The beaches are beautiful. But the lack of sand is an issue for me. Pebbles just arent that comfortable. Anyway it was a pretty quiet night after that.
The next day I was (stupidly) convinced to check out this perfumery museum. The buses air con broke down so it was pretty much 2 x hour long sauna sessions with a s***-boring spiel about fragrance in between. But its all experience I guess. We got dropped back off at the beach at lunch time were I got time to chill on the beach and check out some of the shopping off the main promenade of Nice. Was a good day in the end.
We went to Monte Carlo that night. I saw it as a town to show off your cash and I didn't hate it. If you're not driving a Bentley or a Ferrari, don't bother entering. Me and a couple of mates (Foxy and Fabian) had a bit of a dabble on the roulette and black jack tables. I was doing ok until it was time to leave where i decided to drop an 80 euro bet. First card King, looking good, next card 2, I wont say the exact words that came out of my mouth, but i lost that hand. It didn't really bother me though. It was worth it just to mix it with the rich for a night.
The next day it was on to Italy and the floating city of Venice. Again, another long drive. We got there pretty late and had some spag bol for dinner, which was pretty top notch. Then we went to the bar on the campsite, which turned out to be a lot funner then first expected. Table dancing and vodka redbulls aplenty.
Lewis and I missed the next mornings deadlines and didnt make it into the city until 12. We had a nice lunch at one of the many restaurants on the water. Then we strolled around and checked out St Marks square. We had some time up our sleeve so some of the boys (Lewis, Fabs and Jon) and I decided to get some beers and play some drinking games in this little hidden away courtyard. Probably not what a normal person would do in Venice but it was pretty fun. After that we grabbed a couple of bottles of champagne and went on a gondola (boat) ride around the city. Something that I was really looking forward to doing and it was a good experience.
That night was a repeat of the last, our contiki group owned the bar, it was great.
Next stop Florence - to be continued
